Siemens presents new product lines for angiography
Siemens Healthcare has developed a revolutionary new X-ray tube and detector technology for its Artis Q and Artis Q.zen angiography systems to improve minimally invasive therapy of diseases such as coronary artery disease, stroke and cancer. In both the Artis Q and Artis Q.zen series, the new X-ray tube with unique flat emitter technology can help to identify small vessels up to 70 percent better than conventional filament X-ray tube technology. -

Regional trauma centre at Musgrove Park Hospital installs advanced CT system
Musgrove Park Hospital, part of Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, has installed a SOMATOM® Definition Flash CT system from Siemens Healthcare. The hospital, announced as a regional trauma centre in 2012, is using the system to support its cardiology services, in addition to providing oncology, vascular and general trauma imaging. The Definition Flash is assisting departmental workflow thanks to its rapid imaging times, currently enabling around 250 patients to be scanned weekly. -

University Hospital Southampton bolsters Imaging Department through partnership with Siemens
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) has selected Siemens Healthcare to manage a 13-year Imaging Infrastructure Support Service (IISS) partnership. The partnership demonstrates the Trust’s long-term commitment to the Imaging Department in providing excellent levels of patient care using the latest diagnostic equipment. Based on the MES concept, the IISS contract is expected to add additional capacity, allowing the Trust to improve throughput and diagnose and treat increasing numbers of patients. -

Siemens to supply Crossrail with Control and Communications Systems
Siemens has been selected to supply the operational control and communications systems for Crossrail’s 21 kilometre long tunnels and 9 new central stations. Cross-rail will link suburban routes to the east and west of London, providing more effec-tive travel across the London for an estimated 750,000 daily commuters. Crossrail Limited has placed an order with Siemens worth approximately £43 million. Com-missioning of the overall line is scheduled for the end of 2018. -

London's world class transport system - under threat from austerity?
A new report, “World Class? London’s Transport: Progress and Future Challenges”, has concluded that despite room for improvement in air pollution, cycling safety, climate change, public transport fares and allocation of road space, London’s transport system is world class. However, the report warns that funding must be found to secure and build on improvements and to tackle the future challenges the system faces due to significant population growth and increased transport capacity demand in the Capital.
