Wales gives consent to pioneering tidal array scheme
The Welsh Government has given its approval to the development of the Skerries Tidal Stream Array, which will be Wales’ first commercial tidal energy farm. The Skerries tidal array, one of the largest of its kind to be consented in the UK, will be developed by Siemens-owned Marine Current Turbines (MCT) and will supply up to 10,000 homes. -

Siemens wins top ticketing award
At the recent Transport Ticketing Conference in London, Siemens won the MasterCard Transport Ticketing Award 2013 in the category ‘Ticketing technology of the year’ for the company’s innovative dual-function smartcard. The award marks Siemens UK launch of integrated mobility and eTicketing, part of the company’s expanding portfolio of ITS and City solutions. -

Heart of Slough selects wireless traffic detection from Siemens
New traffic intersections across seven key sites in and around Slough have been equipped with over 150 wireless magnetometer sensors by Siemens. The new Siemens WiMag equipment will help improve the management of traffic using the A4 and travelling to and from the town centre as part of the Heart of Slough improvement project. -

Disappointment as industrial engineering slips down the Business Superbrands
Perception of the industrial engineering sector has seen a significant change in the Superbrands results for 2013. Siemens has been officially named as a Business Superbrand and beat strong competition to retain its place as Industrial Engineering category leader for a third year in a row. However Siemens’ overall ranking fell from 21 to 32, marking a worrying downward trend for the engineering category in the rankings. -

Siemens wins new turbine and service order at Lochluichart
In July 2011, Siemens announced the signing of the UK’s largest order for direct drive wind turbines, with a new contract to supply 17 direct drive turbines for Eneco Wind UK, at Lochluichart wind farm in the Scottish Highlands. This 51MW project is the largest investment to for Eneco Wind UK, a subsidiary of Eneco Wind in the Netherlands. The new order will increase number of turbines to 23 with a total capacity of 69MW. Siemens Service Renewables will also provide a Long Term Programme service extension for 15 to 20 years, extending the current agreement. -

Siemens wins service support contract at Gatwick airport
Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL) has awarded a new 12 month service contract to Siemens Logistics and Airport Solutions to provide engineering support for the operation of the baggage handling systems at both the South and North terminals. The new contract follows the supply and installation of a range of new baggage handling systems for both arrivals and departures at Gatwick.
