Siemens has been awarded a new turbine supply and service order for the Torrance wind farm, located between Scotland’s two main cities – Edinburgh and Glasgow. The order is the latest achievement for Siemens’ innovative and highly-efficient direct drive gearless technology, which generates around 30% more energy than equivalent geared wind turbines.

Siemens’ apprentice Liam Hunter based at the company’s Fossil Service business in Newcastle has been selected as runner up for the EEF award for Outstanding Achievement for Final Year Apprentice. The Award is granted to the Apprentice who has done the most to seize the training and development opportunities presented to them during their apprenticeship, and who has made a significant contribution to support the business activities of their employer.

Siemens will supply the signalling and control equipment for the 21 kilometre long Crossrail tunnel in London, linking up the local transport system to the suburban regional services of Network Rail. The project company "Crossrail" has placed an order with the consortium made up of Siemens and Invensys. The business is worth a total of around 60 million Euros. Commissioning of the overall line is scheduled for the end of 2018.

Siemens Logistics and Airport Solutions has won the Airport Operators Association (AOA) Award for Best Service Provider 2012 for the performance of the company’s Heathrow Terminal 4 (T4) project team. The award was presented to Siemens yesterday at the annual AOA conference and exhibition, and conference dinner and awards ceremony in London.
