Ulverston, 2013-Aug-16
Since 1989, the team at St Mary’s has worked with thousands of families providing support, care and hope for local people and their loved ones. Its vision is that everyone in South Cumbria with a life-limiting condition will have high quality care and support at the end of their life in the place of their choosing. Fundraising is a key part of the way in which the hospice can continue to provide these invaluable services that make a real difference to patients and their families.
Siemens has a longstanding involvement in the local community and causes. As part of the Club 25 initiative, a team of 22 dedicated cyclists from Siemens in Ulverston set out to raise money for St Mary’s and quickly surpassed the £1,000 mark by raising £1,250 from one event alone - the Blackpool to Manchester cycle event. This event represents only one of the many fundraising activities that employees of Siemens Subsea are participating in this year. Wayne Singleton HR Business Partner at Siemens commented:
“St Mary’s Hospice is a cause that’s close to the hearts of many of our employees, and last year we made a decision to support them in their fundraising efforts for the charity. Club 25 is a fantastic idea to engage local businesses and I’m delighted that we have already exceeded our initial target.”
To help support St Mary’s Hospice even further Siemens Subsea has set up a donation bin for items that can be used in the St Mary’s Hospice Charity Shops in its canteen. This has received a huge response from employees.
The funds raised by Siemens will enable St Mary’s Hospice to provide a range of practical support, such as a new bed and mattress for its Inpatient Unit, travel costs for its Hospice at Home Nurses to reach patients throughout the community for 2 months and food & drink for patients in its Inpatient Unit for 15 days.
The total of £25,000 could pay for many invaluable services, such as the annual salary of 1.5 health care assistants, staff to run Day Services for 3 days per week for a year or pay for 2 full time house-keepers for a year.
