Siemens pre-employment training equips young people with skills for the workplace
Siemens, the global engineering and technology company has again demonstrated its leadership in skills and training with the recent launch of its Pre-Employment Programme. Pioneered by Siemens in Lincoln, and aligned to the national Employer Ownership of Skills initiative, its Pre-Employment Scheme aims to provide young people with the skills needed to boost their level of employability and the knowledge to operate effectively in an engineering environment. -

Pioneering wind farm off the Suffolk coast opened officially by UK Energy Minister
The Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm located off the Suffolk Coast has today (Wednesday, 7 August) been opened officially by the UK’s Energy Minister Michael Fallon MP. Greater Gabbard will generate up to 500MW (megawatt) of clean electricity for homes in the region. -

Manchester Royal Infirmary tackles major conditions with interventional radiology system
Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, recently unveiled the latest addition to its state-of-the-art interventional imaging technology in the Interventional Radiology Suite. World Cup winner and Manchester City FC player, Patrick Vieira, cut the ribbon to reveal the new technology which now includes the addition of an Artis zee™ ceiling-mounted system from Siemens Healthcare. The technology is expected to deliver improved productivity, excellent image quality and more efficient dose reduction measures to the benefit of both staff and patients. -

Siemens launches syngo Training Academy to enhance user knowledge
Siemens Healthcare has officially opened a dedicated training facility for its syngo clinical imaging solutions. This includes the advanced 3D routine and reading solution, syngo®.via. The syngo Training Academy is located in the Siemens Healthcare Academy Training and Education Centre, a purpose-built facility at the Siemens plc headquarters in Frimley, Surrey. The Academy is running regular courses for syngo customers in the UK and North West Europe on both general and specialised IT topics throughout the year. -

Wide Bore MR system provides new patient services at Wishaw General
Wishaw General Hospital, part of NHS Lanarkshire in Scotland, has recently installed a MAGNETOM® Aera MR system from Siemens Healthcare. It is hoped the new system will expand patient services to include gynaecology imaging and volume scans of the head. It will also continue to provide standard procedures along with neurology, musculoskeletal, Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) and liver imaging. -

Siemens Healthcare welcomes dementia summit with Alzheimer’s imaging solutions
Siemens Healthcare has welcomed the news that a G8 dementia summit will be hosted by the UK in September this year, paving the way for an international agenda on dementia research. Siemens is pleased to support efforts to improve dementia diagnosis rates with the first commercial doses of Eli Lilly and Company’s AmyvidTM agent also due to begin in the UK this summer. This radiopharmaceutical agent will join Siemens’ existing innovative systems and applications for PET imaging used in the diagnosis and treatment of dementia. -

Siemens wins new order with Velocita in Scotland
Siemens has announced the signing of a new order with AOE Windfarm Limited (a subsidiary of Velocita Energy Developments) at Ardoch and Over Enoch in Scotland for 5 x 2.3-93 WTGs with 63.3m hub height towers, a total tip height 110m. Siemens will also provide a long-term service and maintenance agreement helping to ensure the continued productivity, reliability and availability of the turbines. -

Addenbrooke’s Hospital expands interventional radiology services and trauma capabilities
Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has recently installed a ceiling-mounted Artis zeeTM from Siemens Healthcare into its Interventional Radiology Suite. The installation follows the hospital’s recent designation as a major trauma centre for the East of England and will enable the site to expand available services, providing a fast response to trauma cases. The system was acquired via a lease agreement from Siemens Financial Services through independent verification channels which confirmed it as providing the most value for the Trust. -

Siemens Healthcare hosts forum for CT education and best-practice sharing
Siemens Healthcare recently hosted a two-day CT user group at Crewe Hall, Cheshire. The forum was designed to share best-practice on CT procedures and extend clinical and technological knowledge. A number of speaker sessions were delivered by delegates on a range of clinical subjects ranging from cardiac CT, new imaging protocols, interventional procedures, CT urograms to CT angiography. -

Siemens Healthcare is delivering rapid, real-time support at The Royal Liverpool University Hospital, part of The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, through its customer service support tool, syngo® Remote Assist. The hospital has recently called on the service to enhance its liver imaging procedures and Dual Source CT energy protocols. The application is supporting the hospital’s CT systems including the SOMATOM® Definition AS, Definition AS+ and Definition Flash serving a wide variety of clinical uses from outpatient, cardiac and colonography cases to trauma, emergency intervention and brain perfusion imaging. -

The John Radcliffe installs Artis zee ceiling for its ease of use and dose saving features
The John Radcliffe Hospital, part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, has recently installed a ceiling-mounted Artis zeeTM from Siemens Healthcare. The angiography system is located in the vascular centre and is being used for a range of procedures including vascular, iliac and fibroid embolisation. With a large number of radiographers using the system around the clock, the Artis zee was chosen for its ease of use and dose-saving features.
