World’s largest offshore wind farm with 175 Siemens wind turbines inaugurated
Today marks the inauguration of the world’s largest offshore wind power plant, London Array. Siemens supplied the 175 wind turbines and the grid connection for London Array. Together with Dong Energy, Siemens will also be responsible for the service of the wind turbines through a long-term agreement. The wind power plant owned, developed and built by a consortium consisting of Dong Energy, E.ON and Masdar has a total capacity of 630 megawatts (MW) and will generate enough power to supply 500,000 British households with clean electricity. London Array will reduce annual CO2 emissions by approximately 900,000 tons, which equals the emissions of 300,000 passenger cars. -

Manchester to enforce city bus lanes
Siemens has been awarded a contract by Manchester City Council to supply unattended bus lane enforcement cameras to sites across the city. Working with Zenco Systems, the UK's leading supplier of bus lane enforcement equipment, the solution will enable Manchester City Council to identify unauthorised vehicles using the lanes restricted for the unhindered flow of buses, capture the event and prepare an evidential record to support the issue of an enforcement notice. The cameras are redeployable and will be moved around a number of locations to provide maximum coverage. -

New loop detector functionality launched by Siemens
An enhanced version of the Siemens SLD4 loop detector family is now available from Siemens featuring sophisticated length based classification with configurable outputs which can be set to activate when specific conditions are detected, such as large vehicles exceeding a predefined speed. As well as offering standard vehicle detection the latest version of the SLD4 can also be used in specialised bus, tram and Light Rail Transport (LRT) schemes and other similar applications where excellent detection accuracy is required. -

The Montefiore Hospital “future-proofs” cardiac imaging ambitions with Siemens
The Montefiore Hospital in Brighton, part of the Spire Healthcare group, has installed a MAGNETOM® Aera MRI scanner and SOMATOM® Definition AS CT system from Siemens Healthcare. The installations follow the recent opening of the hospital at the end of 2012 and enable the provision of musculoskeletal and oncology imaging services to patients. The imaging systems support the hospital’s ambitions for extended cardiac imaging capabilities. -

Siemens showcases advanced hybrid operating suite at Charing Cross Symposium
Siemens Healthcare recently showcased its range of innovations for intraoperative imaging at the 35th Charing Cross International Symposium (CX35) event in London. A full-scale hybrid operating suite featured the Artis zeego™ multi-axis interventional imaging system from Siemens Healthcare with a fully integrated operating theatre table, viewing and lighting solutions from Maquet. Also on display was the Cios Alpha, a new mobile C-arm system featuring flat detector technology. Delegates were interested to learn how these solutions could help to boost image quality, adjust dose to the desired level and ultimately improve clinical outcomes. -

Siemens’ PETNET Solutions and Lilly Sign Amyvid EU Manufacturing Agreement
PETNET Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens Medical SolutionsUSA, Inc., will soon begin manufacturing Eli Lilly and Company’s AmyvidTM (Florbetapir (18F)) radiopharmaceutical in the United Kingdom, as well as in Spain and France, after signing a manufacturing services agreement with Eli Lilly and Company. Siemens’ PETNET Solutions will function as a contract manufacturer for Lilly after Lilly’s diagnostic radiopharmaceutical received marketing authorisation from the European Commission in early 2013. -

X-ray and interventional imaging systems to increase throughput at James Cook
The James Cook University Hospital, part of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has ordered an Artis zeeTM Multi-purpose (MP) interventional imaging system and three Ysio Digital X-ray systems from Siemens Healthcare. The new systems were selected as part of an equipment replacement programme for three Digital Radiography (DR) rooms and a fluoroscopy room. It is hoped the systems will facilitate an efficient, fast throughput of patients, combined with excellent image quality, reliability and ease of use. -

Definition Flash delivers enhanced cardiac imaging at Freeman Hospital
Freeman Hospital, part of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has recently installed a SOMATOM® Definition Flash from Siemens Healthcare. The hospital is one of the first to benefit from Siemens’ Stellar Detector technology that virtually eliminates electronic noise. The Definition Flash has enabled Freeman Hospital to deliver enhanced cardiac imaging to patients as part of its role as a Regional Cardiothoracic Centre, in addition to providing enhanced vascular, oncology, urology and paediatric imaging. -

Siemens hails UK as a 'world class innovation hub'
Siemens has reaffirmed its commitment to investing in Britain, describing the UK as an ‘international and world class innovation location'. The global technology giant has outlined its commitment to developing more technologies in Britain following the G8 Innovation Conference held at the Siemens Crystal building in London on June 14th. Siemens has also called for the Government to refine its focus in bolstering research in Britain by honing in on areas of best practice.
