Siemens launches new energy management tools to help cash-strapped businesses identify, quantify and reduce energy spend
97% of UK businesses are worried about the impact of rising energy costs1, with the ability to forecast costs concerning 91% of those surveyed. In response to these trends Siemens has today launched a suite of new energy management tools to help businesses better measure and ultimately bring down their energy costs. -

Siemens supports “drive to grow” for UK’s first national talent platform
On Thursday 17 October (16.00-18.00) Siemens took part in a Talent Retention Solution (TRS) reception hosted by Lord Willis of Knaresborough at the House of Commons. The reception focused on the journey so far for the TRS, the UK’s first national talent platform of its kind, but more importantly on its plans for the next 2-3 years. The event also provided a valuable opportunity to network and to meet with those in industry and supporting organisations responsible for driving TRS forward. -

Making waves in offshore wind R&D Siemens partners with Newcastle University
Siemens the world leader in offshore wind energy solutions is collaborating with the Newcastle University and offshore specialist ALE in an innovative offshore R&D programme. Focused on ensuring the future energy transmission needs of the offshore wind industry are met effectively, wave tank modeling is part of the wider Offshore Platform Reference Design (AC and HVDC) project which sits within the Wind Innovation Programme managed by Narec, the Blyth-based National Renewable Energy Centre. The project is supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund (RGF) initiative. -

Latest Siemens wind turbine installed at SSE in the UK
Siemens has now installed a market-ready version of its new 6 megawatt (MW) gearless wind turbine on the test site of the power utility SSE, the UK’s largest generator of renewable energy. Together with its customer, Siemens plans to carry out final testing at the site before going ahead with series production for the UK market but also for international markets. The turbine of the type SWT-6.0-154 with 154 meter rotor diameter offers cutting edge direct drive technology. -

First trial underway of cloud-based traffic management from Siemens
Following its launch at Traffex 2013, Siemens Stratos has made its operational debut in the UK. South Gloucestershire Council is trialling the Stratos journey time application using data from a network of ANPR cameras to monitor the reliability of traffic times on key corridors and provide a baseline for measuring the impact of network strategies and improvements. -

Siemens Rail Automation Achieves Major GNGE Milestone
On 2 September 2013, Siemens Rail Automation handed Phase 1 of the Great Northern Great Eastern (GNGE) programme over to test. The handover follows the successful hangar testing of the signalling equipment for Phase 1, which was completed off-site at the company’s Chippenham facility, and its subsequent installation during July and August. -

Wishaw General increases capacity with Scotland’s first Perspective CT system
Wishaw General Hospital, part of NHS Lanarkshire in Scotland has recently installed a SOMATOM® Perspective from Siemens Healthcare. The system is Scotland’s first and is expected to increase CT capacity in addition to expanding the number of low-dose procedures conducted at the hospital. The Perspective, alongside an existing Definition AS system from Siemens, is assisting with a general CT scanning workload such as head and chest procedures and is helping to meet increased demand for CT-related services. -

Spire Gatwick expands MR procedures and scores a try with Skyra 3T imaging system
Spire Gatwick Park Hospital, part of Spire Healthcare, has recently installed its first MAGNETOM® Skyra 3T MR system from Siemens Healthcare. The system was formally unveiled by former English rugby union player, Austin Healey. Having used a previous-generation Siemens system, the MAGNETOM Symphony 1.5T, for over nine years, Spire Gatwick sought a replacement state-of-the-art system to expand its service provision. This is expected to include cardiac MR procedures, whole-body imaging, whole-body diffusion and cartilage imaging.
