Siemens Healthcare recently hosted a four-day advanced cardiovascular CT course at Siemens Healthcare Headquarters in Frimley, Surrey. The specialist course ran in collaboration with the National Heart and Lung Institute and was designed to provide advanced, practical experience to cardiovascular imaging professionals. It was also developed to bolster confidence when dealing with cardiovascular CT, above and beyond basic reporting.

A dedicated two-day course, designed to introduce and build knowledge of PET-CT technology and procedures, has been successfully completed by radiologists, physicists, and radiographers from the UK and Europe.

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust has recently installed an Artis zeeTM Multi-purpose (MP) from Siemens Healthcare. The interventional imaging system was selected for its dose-saving CARE (Combined Applications to Reduce Exposure) and CLEAR (advanced image post-processing) features, which is delivered as standard, along with its ability to image bariatric patients with ease.

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RJAH) in Oswestry, Shropshire has installed an ACUSON S2000™ ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare. The system’s workload is made up of 60% musculoskeletal procedures and 40% GP direct access ultrasound. Sonographers using the system are already beginning to benefit from improved clinical confidence due to the fine detail presented on images.

Eastbourne District General Hospital, part of East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, is benefitting from high quality images for enhanced clinical diagnosis following the installation of an AXIOM Luminos dRF™ from Siemens Healthcare. The two-in-one fully digital radiography and fluoroscopy system produces instant images via the fixed 43cm x 43cm detector in the table and the wireless detector.

Siemens Healthcare has demonstrated a number of new cardiology solutions as part of its “Agenda 2013” sector initiative at this year’s European Society of Cardiology (ESC) congress in Amsterdam. To support patients and clinicians, Siemens has developed products and solutions especially tailored to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. These include a new cardiac catheter, clinical IT, applications for CT and MR imaging and a new system for cardiac molecular imaging.

The company is looking to maximise talent within the organisation by offering a combination of theoretical and vocational study, providing individuals the opportunity to develop in-demand skills and gain a professional qualification.

King’s Mill Hospital, part of the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has installed a MAGNETOM® Aera 1.5T MR system from Siemens Healthcare. The hospital is using the system, which replaces a previous-generation system, for a broad range of imaging including neurological and orthopaedic procedures. The hospital also hopes to expand services in the future to include cardiac and breast imaging.

Siemens Healthcare recently demonstrated the ACUSON FreestyleTM wireless ultrasound system at the London Society of Regional Anesthesia’s (LSORA) Evidence Based Peri-Operative Medicine (EBPOM) 3rd London Workshops for Regional Anaesthesia. The system was put to clinical use for the first time in the UK with delegates able to explore the new system and take part in hands-on sessions involving accurate ultrasound-guided needle placement on a variety of models.

University Hospital of North Staffordshire (UHNS), has installed a hybrid PET-CT system from Siemens Healthcare to help increase capacity and further strengthen its advanced imaging facilities.

Siemens is opening the first Junior Factory for apprentices at its award winning facil-ity in Congleton, launching during the Government’s flagship ‘Tomorrows Engineers Week’. The facility will be opened by UK and Ireland Chief Executive Roland Aurich on the 7th of November and will act as a ‘small factory within a factory’ run by a mix-ture of commercial and technical apprentices aged 16 to 21.

At a presentation ceremony in London earlier this month, traffic technology company Siemens based in Poole, Dorset was honoured as one of three finalists for the 2013 UK Excellence Award presented annually by the British Quality Foundation to recognise business performance improvement. The company’s score measured against Europe's most widely used management framework, the EFQM Excellence Model increased substantially, earning Siemens a 5 star Recognised for Excellence standard.
