Wishaw General increases capacity with Scotland’s first Perspective CT system
Wishaw General Hospital, part of NHS Lanarkshire in Scotland has recently installed a SOMATOM® Perspective from Siemens Healthcare. The system is Scotland’s first and is expected to increase CT capacity in addition to expanding the number of low-dose procedures conducted at the hospital. The Perspective, alongside an existing Definition AS system from Siemens, is assisting with a general CT scanning workload such as head and chest procedures and is helping to meet increased demand for CT-related services. -

Spire Gatwick expands MR procedures and scores a try with Skyra 3T imaging system
Spire Gatwick Park Hospital, part of Spire Healthcare, has recently installed its first MAGNETOM® Skyra 3T MR system from Siemens Healthcare. The system was formally unveiled by former English rugby union player, Austin Healey. Having used a previous-generation Siemens system, the MAGNETOM Symphony 1.5T, for over nine years, Spire Gatwick sought a replacement state-of-the-art system to expand its service provision. This is expected to include cardiac MR procedures, whole-body imaging, whole-body diffusion and cartilage imaging. -

UK skills boost as rail training academy gets the go-ahead
The UK rail industry is set to receive an extensive skills boost – thanks to a new rail training academy developed collaboratively by Siemens and NSARE (National Skills Academy for Railway Engineering). An innovative agreement between NSARE and the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) with support from the Department for Transport (DFT) will provide half the funds required, with Siemens contributing the other 50 per cent. -

Siemens opens its doors to the latest crop of apprentices in the North of England
On the 11th, 12th and 13th of September Siemens Subsea in Ulverston, Cumbria will host the welcome programme for the latest group of apprentices to join Siemens businesses across the North of England. The Ulverston base is welcoming appren-tices from Siemens businesses in Manchester (Infrastructure and Cities), Leeds (Railways) and Congleton (Industrial). Siemens Subsea is also taking on 12 apprentices this year. The apprentices will all start in September. -

UK’s first integrated MR/PET system marks one year of pioneering research
The University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre, part of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is celebrating the one year anniversary of the installation of the UK’s first MR/PET system, the BiographTM mMR from Siemens Healthcare. The world’s first fully integrated MR and PET scanner has expanded horizons for research to better understand, diagnose and address priority diseases including heart attack, stroke and dementia. It allows for the simultaneous acquisition of MR scans with their excellent anatomical and functional information together with PET scans which can depict cellular activity. Siemens Healthcare, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) University College London Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre and NHS patients have all worked in partnership to drive forward the technological advances that impact on key diseases. -

First cohort of graduate engineers from pioneering Engineering School in Lincoln
The first cohort of graduates from the University of Lincoln’s pioneering new School of Engineering will collect their degree certificates today (Tuesday, 3 September).
