Today, Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, will visit the Siemens Crystal in London, one of the world’s most sustainable buildings, to emphasise the importance of the urban dimension in EU policy-making.

Commissioner Johannes Hahn will meet with the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, Pedro Miranda, Head of Siemens One/City Center of Competence and Martin Powell, Head of Urban Development at the Siemens Crystal, a uniquely shaped, glass-clad building, which is one of the world’s most sustainable buildings. Inside is the world’s largest exhibition on the future of cities covering 2,000 square metres.

Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, said: “I am pleased to visit this exciting exhibition at the Siemens Crystal, which showcases what can be done in cities around the EU and indeed around the world. We are now discussing a future urban agenda for the EU, and the importance of the urban dimension of regional policy has been marked in the new EU budget. With a focus on sustainable, energy efficient development we expect that at least 50% of our investments will be directed at Europe's cities in 2014-2020.”

Pedro Miranda, Head of Siemens One/City Center of Competence, commented: “I am pleased to welcome EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn to the Crystal and to discuss with the Commissioner how the EU can develop a future urban agenda and contribute to urban sustainability.”
