People across the UK are being encouraged to look into community energy schemes in their areas as winter approaches and throughout Community Energy Fortnight.

Blackpool Victoria Hospital has been able to increase patient throughput with the help of five Ysio® X-ray systems from Siemens Healthcare. Two of the systems have been installed in the hospitals A&E department, with a further two installed in the Outpatient Department. These are performing orthopaedic procedures such as spine and leg alignment work. A fifth Ysio system is also in place in the Cardiac Department.

NHS Grampian's largest hospital, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI), has dedicated resources into making its vascular procedures non-invasive and friendlier for its patient community that spans the cities of Aberdeen right up to the Highlands and Islands. The installation of an ACUSONTM P300 portable ultrasound system and an ACUSON S2000 ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare have negated the need for patients to have a CT or MR scan for various vascular procedures. This means there is no dose impact, therefore minimising risk for patients and staff alike.

Castle Hill Hospital, part of Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, has recently opened The Jack Brignall Scanning Centre. The facility is the first in the UK to be fitted with a Biograph mCT Flow EdgeTM PET·CT system from Siemens Healthcare which has been funded by Hull-based charity, The Daisy Appeal. Opened by former Secretary of State for Health, Baroness Virginia Bottomley, the system is being used to conduct mostly oncological work in addition to infection scanning, vasculitis and clinical research.

Siemens, has extended its partnership with Greenpower Education Trust for another five years, until at least 2020.

Transport for London (TfL) has awarded Siemens a contract to replace existing speed cameras on selected routes in the Capital with new digital average speed enforcement systems. The contract, part of TfL’s London Safety Camera Replacement Project, includes the deployment of more than 100 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras over the next 24 months, covering four main routes across London and represents the largest roll-out of Siemens SafeZone average speed enforcement solution in an urban area anywhere in the UK. Ongoing service and maintenance will also be provided by Siemens.

Hull Royal Infirmary, part of the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, has enhanced its services with the installation of a SOMATOM® Definition AS+ CT system as part of a wider regeneration of its state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED). The system from Siemens Healthcare is responsible for imaging up to 40 emergency and inpatients per day, helping the department to deal with increased throughput and supporting the hospital’s vision to provide excellent levels of care.

Families, passengers and rail enthusiasts are being invited to a behind-the-scenes look at a working train depot, as Siemens opens its recently electrified maintenance facility in Ardwick as part of Manchester Science Festival on Saturday 25 October.
