Manchester Royal Infirmary enlists ARFI via S3000 ultrasound to enhance liver examinations
Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has increased its imaging capabilities with the installation of an ACUSON S3000™ ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare. In addition to carrying out a wide range of general procedures, the hospital anticipates the system will significantly benefit its Liver and HPB Unit with improved image quality and functionality leading to the reduction of liver biopsies required. -

Siemens supports generation of clean energy at Carno II wind farm in mid-Wales
Today Siemens and Amegni celebrated the signing of a new service agreement for the Carno II wind farm near Newtown, Mid-Wales. The renewal will retain the services of Siemens in maintaining the 12 SWT1.3MW turbines at the site. Carno II wind farm was developed by three local farmers under their company ‘Amegni’ and has an installed capacity of 15.6 MW. The site generates enough clean energy to annually meet the needs of 11,000 homes with clean renewable energy. -

Spire Alexandra Hospital, part of the Spire Healthcare Group, has recently upgraded its MAGNETOM® Avanto MR system from Siemens Healthcare. One of the first hospitals to install the previous-generation system seven years ago, Spire Alexandra has opted for the Avantofit upgrade to benefit from new advanced and routine applications. It has also received the latest generation of integrated coil technology. The hospital anticipates the new technology will enhance abdominal, orthopaedic and prostate procedures, and will provide the capability to extend its MR and angiography remit in the future. -

Siemens in Lincoln celebrates another strong year of charitable giving
Siemens gas turbine manufacturing and service business in Lincoln is celebrating the efforts of its employees in generating another strong half year of giving to local charities. The company’s Charity and Donations Committee was established in 2012 to manage the annual budget allocated by the business to assist local charities. In the last six months the committee has agreed to donations totalling over £7,000. Since the committee was established it has donated over £27,000 to local causes. -

The Bohunt STEM Festival which took place this weekend was focused on exciting the next generation of young people and the wider community about the wealth of opportunities and careers available within the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) industries. As a major engineering employer in the UK, with 13,760 employees, there is little doubt that apprenticeships deliver value for Siemens. Siemens has created 160 places this year across its four sectors; Energy, Industry, Healthcare and Infrastructure and Cities. The number of new apprentices at the firm has increased by 10% from 2013.
