Hull City Council approves planning for works at Alexandra Dock

Plans for a £210m fleet of new trains to benefit passengers on the UK’s busiest commuter rail franchise moved forward today, as South West Trains announced its intention to award the contract to manufacturer Siemens and leasing company Angel Trains.

More than five million young people will benefit from a greater knowledge of the opportunities created by STEM subjects and the exciting career prospects engineering delivers.

Research firm KLAS has named the ACUSON S3000 TM ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare the recipient of its 2014 ‘Best in KLAS’ Award in the category of ‘Ultrasound – General Imaging’. The annual survey aims to improve healthcare technology delivery by honestly, accurately, and impartially measuring vendor performance. Equipment used for ultrasound imaging within general imaging, including diagnostic radiology, women’s health, obstetrics, urology, and other related specialties were compared within the category.

The UK’s manufacturing sector is rapidly turning to energy efficiency technologies to reduce costs and cut emissions, with 79% reporting energy as a business critical issue in the year ahead.

Two new Traffic Control Maintenance Services contracts have been awarded to Siemens by Transport for London. Commencing October 2014, Siemens will maintain traffic control equipment in the North and North-east London regions, representing two of the five contracts that will see London’s traffic signals upgraded to the latest, energy-saving technology, as well as expanding the use of intelligent traffic signals and new crossings for pedestrians and cyclists. Worth in total around £317m for up to eight years, the five contracts cover over 6,200 traffic signal sites, 149 variable message signs (VMS) and 56 over-height vehicle detectors across the capital.

From Aberdeen to Bristol, Siemens UK has won a significant number of new contracts for Electric Vehicle (EV) rapid charging technology in the past few months and the company will be highlighting its recent success and growing reputation in the market at two low carbon vehicle events in September 2014.

Nottingham City Hospital, part of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, has chosen a SOMATOM® Definition AS+ system to bolster its CT department and enhance patient care during imaging procedures. The system procurement was facilitated by a member of the community, James Redgate, who left a donation to Nottingham Hospitals Charity in his will. The system is imaging up to 30 patients per day, and staff have reported that the simple and well laid out user interface enhances workflow.

Business Secretary Vince Cable MP visited Siemens Mechanical Drives to celebrate the launch of the Government’s new campaign calling on young people to “Get In, Go Far” by choosing an apprenticeship. He praised Siemens commitment to developing engineering skills in Yorkshire, specifically through the backing of the newly proposed University Technical College for the city as well as supporting a number of local apprenticeships at the facility in Leeds.

King’s College Hospital, part of the King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, has recently increased its imaging capabilities with the installation of two ACUSON S3000TM ultrasound systems from Siemens Healthcare. The units, which image up to 40 patients per day at the hospital respectively, were primarily chosen for their excellent versatility and imaging capabilities.

West Suffolk Hospital, part of West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, has been able to increase the clinical offering its expanding MR department provides to patients through the installation of a new system from Siemens Healthcare. The busy department, which currently examines over 10,000 patients per annum, anticipates the new technology will reduce the number of studies patients have to undergo as a result of more detailed MR procedures.

The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) is going through an expansion to facilitate the centralisation of all specialist children's services in a single, state-of-the-art children's hospital. To support an increase in workload, the hospital has invested in three ARCADIS® Varic C-arms from Siemens Healthcare to provide treatment for local Bristol children plus specialist care for children across the South West and nationally.
