Siemens Industry has been awarded a prestigious award in recognition of its community investment programme, including a number of projects in and around the Manchester area.

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust has become the first site in the UK to invest in the newest interventional radiology innovation from Siemens Healthcare. The Artis Q biplane system, due to be installed later in the year, will provide the hospital with the latest technology to support the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions and injuries. As one of the main specialist neurosciences NHS Trusts in the UK, the site is using the system in its work to offer patients a world class-service in neurology.

Siemens Healthcare recently hosted a range of educational sessions on various topical subjects including latest technological advances, optimising clinical workflow and techniques for clinical best practice to delegates at UKRC 2014. The sessions accompanied the imaging innovations on display which aimed to provide new possibilities for clinical detection, accurate diagnosis and targeted therapy to help overcome challenges in the clinical setting.

Nine speakers from hospitals across the UK presented the latest findings on CT to help improve routine clinical practice. Topics covered included Dual Energy CT, enhanced specifications on Siemens systems and experiences in implementing best practice in CT.

Siemens Healthcare recently hosted a series of echocardiography and workflow efficiency workshops across the UK. Using live demonstrations of the ACUSON SC2000TM, delegates were able to discover how continuous volume imaging can improve diagnostic confidence and workflow efficiency. The workshops were held in Glasgow, Manchester and London and saw experts in the field of echocardiography speak to delegates including consultant cardiologists and cardiology surgeons.

As dementia rates continue to rise in the UK, The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is proud of its fight in aiding early diagnosis of the condition with the help of its Symbia® TruePoint SPECT•CT system from Siemens Healthcare. Patients from all across the North West of England are referred to the hospital with memory problems where they can be tested using various Nuclear Medicine imaging methods. Since the installation of the Siemens SPECT•CT system 5 years ago, the hospital has conducted over a thousand brain scans, helping to identify Alzheimer’s as early in its development as possible.

Nova Scotia’s Minister of Energy and Minister of Communications, Andrew Younger today visited Siemens’ SeaGen tidal energy turbine at Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland. Siemens-owned Marine Current Turbines (MCT) is pushing ahead with even more ambitious innovation in Canada with the SeaGen-F floating turbine, which forms a backdrop to today’s visit.
