At Traffex 2015, Siemens unveils a new approach to network management utilising its new Service Operations Centre (SOC) – an operational traffic management and support service that brings together the company’s existing Field Service Contact Centre, Systems Support and its Poole-based Consultancy Services team into one location.

The UK will soon be home to two of the most hi-tech train centres in Europe, as completion approaches for the new Three Bridges and Hornsey depots. The two depots, constructed with an investment of over £300 million by Siemens, will house the Siemens-built Class 700 Desiro City trains, which will start operating on Govia Thameslink Railway’s (GTR) Thameslink and Great Northern services from spring 2016.

Siemens launches a brand new DC rapid electric vehicle charger and showcases further product features at both GreenFleet Scotland (10-11 April) and Traffex 2015 (21-23 April) this month, complementing the company’s proven range of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions.

Siemens will unveil a new cycle detection system at Traffex next month. WiMag Cycle Detection uses in-ground, low-power, wireless detectors and microwave radar technology to identify and count bicycles of all types, including those constructed from carbon fibre. The solution complements the company’s existing WiMag, loop and radar detection solutions.

The manufacture of the new Siemens-built, Desiro City trains for Thameslink – known as the Class 700 - is well under way, with the first train due to arrive in the UK later this year. Over 200 (out of a total of 1,140) Class 700 body shells have now been manufactured with a total of six trains completed to date.

The University of Cambridge has been awarded £25 million in funding by the Medical Research Council (MRC) to invest in a range of revolutionary technologies for experimental medicine. This enables a major investment in innovative neuroimaging technologies to identify the causes of dementia plus speed up diagnosis and treatment. This includes ultra-high power MR imaging technology such as the MAGNETOMTM 7T imaging system from Siemens Healthcare. Designed to identify small changes in the structure, function and chemistry of the brain even before dementia starts, the technology will help to ensure the university remains one of the world leaders in clinical and cognitive neuroscience research. e
