Siemens in Lincoln to deliver £30 million contract to South America

Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery Ltd., has announced success in securing a major contract to export Siemens industrial gas turbines to Columbia’s main oil pipeline operator, Oleoducto Central SA (OCENSA). The order is worth in excess of £30m (€40m) and consists of three SGT300 and six SGT400 turbines.

Under the deal, six Gas Turbine Packages and nine Gas Turbine Core engines will be supplied by the company’s UK facility in Lincoln and three Gas Turbine packages from Siemens facility in the US.

The competitive international tender was won by Siemens due to its unique position of being able to supply a mixture of pre-assembled and new build turbines, combined with technical fit and low cost of ownership.

OCENSA are currently responsible for 70% of all crude oil transported in Columbia. The turbines, with their reputation for high reliability will enable OCENSA to increase capacity to 140,000 Oil Barrels Per Day and plan for future capacity increase requirements.

The latest Siemens contract win underlines the success of the company’s gas turbine business in Lincoln. Gas turbines have been manufactured in Lincoln for more than 60 years and Siemens is one of the largest local employers with a workforce of around 1,500. The business in Lincoln has benefitted from significant investment in innovation and its facilities and in 2012 formed a partnership with Lincoln University to open the UK’s first school of engineering in 20 years.

Commenting on the news, Neil Corner, Managing Director, Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery Ltd., said: “This order reinforces Siemens’ place as a key partner and major player within the oil and gas industry in South America. We are delighted to have secured this work here in Lincoln and it proves once again that by continuing to invest in our people, facilities and innovation, we have a world-class business that is able to compete and win in the global market place.”
