Siemens wins new onshore wind order to power homes in Essex
- Siemens wins new wind turbine and service order with Blue Energy at
Southminster, Essex - Order for 9 SWP 2.3-101 wind turbines and 15 year Long Term Programme
service contract - New wind farm will generate clean energy for over 9,000 homes
Siemens has announced the signing of its first order with Blue Energy, one of the
UK’s leading developers of renewable energy infrastructure for the Middlewick wind
farm located on the Dengie Peninsula, 3km east of Southminster, in Essex.
The new wind farm will generate 20.7MW of eco-friendly electricity, enough to power
9,200 homes in the area and anticipated savings of 21,200 tonnes of CO2.
Middlewick wind farm will comprise 9 SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines with 73.5m hub
height towers. The order includes a 5-year warranty and a 15-year Long Term
Programme service agreement. Blue Energy’s project is supported by co-funding
from Santander.
Chris Dean, CEO of Blue Energy said “This is an important project for Blue
Energy being the first we have rolled out since our recent acquisition of the
RidgeWind portfolio from Hg Capital in February 2013.
Blue Energy is committed to ensuring that we match the most efficient
configuration of turbine and technology to meet the characteristics of an
individual site. The SWT 2.3 – 101 is ideal for optimising the wind conditions at
Middlewick. We look forward to continuing and developing our relationship with
Siemens, one of the most respected turbine supply companies in the world.”
Commenting on the new contract, Grant Walker, managing director of
Siemens Onshore Wind Power GB&I said:
“We are delighted to have won our first order with Blue Energy to support the further
development of its UK portfolio. Siemens has a strong track record in the onshore
sector in the UK and the new order demonstrates confidence in our technology and
service offering and teams. We look forward to working with the Blue Energy team
on this and future green energy projects."
Siemens will begin delivering turbines in January 2014 via a specific marine
purpose-built access in the River Crouch near the wind farm site and the blades will
be supplied from the United States.
