The wind turbine commissioning technicians will be based in Hull but will work on Siemens offshore wind projects in the UK and Europe, bringing turbines into operation.
Fourteen positions have been advertised for what Siemens described as the “vanguard” of a phased recruitment operation which will eventually see the company employ 1,000 people in Hull.
The jobs are split between six land-based stores and servicing jobs and eight offshore wind turbine commissioning technician positions.
The roles of a site stores manager and five stores operatives will support Siemens’ existing onshore and offshore wind turbine projects in the UK. They will be based at an interim warehouse facility in Hull until they relocate to a service logistics and warehousing centre at Alexandra Dock, prior to production of wind turbine blades from the new factory on the waterfront site.

Siemens Hull project director Finbarr Dowling said: “These positions show that we’re really getting geared up. They are the vanguard for our recruitment in Hull. More will follow early in the New Year and we will continue to recruit through 2015 and 2016.
“Initially, we are likely to be recruiting in relatively small groups of under or around 10, but we will be accelerating to larger numbers later in the process.
“We want to build a critical mass of experience and expertise in Hull, to create a centre of excellence for wind power.”
The 14 positions are advertised in today’s Hull Daily Mail, on the Siemens website, internally within Siemens, and via JobCentre Plus.
Siemens is expecting the roles to be in high demand, having already seen 80 applicants for the first advertised project team member role, that of office manager.
The positions will be available for one week only, with applications closing at midnight on Tuesday, December 23. All applicants must live within a 40-minute radius of Hull or be willing to relocate to the city.
Each of the roles has defined minimum requirements, as set out in the job advertisements. All applications are required to be submitted electronically.
The stores positions require solid warehousing and logistics experience, within a fast-moving service environment. A full, valid driving licence is required and a forklift licence desirable. Candidates must be able to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation and good practice.
Siemens managers stress that the wind turbine commissioning technician jobs require people who are highly flexible and prepared to work away from home for periods of time. Candidates must have hands-on electrical and/or mechanical experience and possess appropriate qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 or above, City & Guilds, HND or HNC.
The Siemens recruitment team says that, because of Siemens’ leading role in the industry and the attractiveness of the roles, the wind turbine commissioning technician jobs typically attract very high volumes of applications.
Applicants for all the jobs who meet the minimum criteria for the positions and pass initial reviews will also need to complete online tests. Failure to do so will result in automatic disqualification from the process.
All results will then be reviewed against key competencies in the job profiles, with candidates informed by e-mail whether they have been successful or not at this stage. The final stage will involve attendance at an assessment centre at the beginning of February.
Recruitment for the roles follows soon after the first five members of the project team who will deliver the Alexandra Dock facility moved into new offices on Hull Marina. The project will be driven from the Marina offices, with support from staff at Siemens offices in the UK and Europe, while Alexandra Dock is developed.
Construction of buildings for the blade manufacturing and wind turbine assembly facilities is due to begin in summer 2015, with production of the first blades scheduled for November 2016.
