Siemens gears up for arrival of Thameslink trains
The UK will soon be home to two of the most hi-tech train centres in Europe, as completion approaches for the new Three Bridges and Hornsey depots. The two depots, constructed with an investment of over £300 million by Siemens, will house the Siemens-built Class 700 Desiro City trains, which will start operating on Govia Thameslink Railway’s (GTR) Thameslink and Great Northern services from spring 2016. -

Wireless cycle detection system launched by Siemens
Siemens will unveil a new cycle detection system at Traffex next month. WiMag Cycle Detection uses in-ground, low-power, wireless detectors and microwave radar technology to identify and count bicycles of all types, including those constructed from carbon fibre. The solution complements the company’s existing WiMag, loop and radar detection solutions. -

Desiro City manufacture ‘on track’ with passenger service drawing close for new Thameslink trains
The manufacture of the new Siemens-built, Desiro City trains for Thameslink – known as the Class 700 - is well under way, with the first train due to arrive in the UK later this year. Over 200 (out of a total of 1,140) Class 700 body shells have now been manufactured with a total of six trains completed to date. -
