The Siemens’ team responsible for looking after the 172-strong fleet of South West Trains operated Siemens Desiro Class 444 and 450 trains based at Northam, Southampton, were last night commended in the rail industry ‘Oscars’. They picked up two Highly Commended accolades in the National Rail Awards 2015 Maintenance Team of the Year and Outstanding Teamwork categories.

Central Middlesex Hospital, part of London North West Healthcare NHS Trust, is leading the way in providing rapid liver disease diagnosis by using innovative technology to deliver full liver assessments in one day. The hospital has reduced the number of liver biopsies, the current gold standard method for assessing liver disease, by utilising Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI) technology on an ACUSON S2000TM ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare.

Groundbreaking new ultrasound technology capable of diagnosing and monitoring liver disease without the need for surgery has been approved for use by the NHS. The ultrasound technique, called Virtual Touch Quantification™ (VTQ) from Siemens Healthcare, assesses the stiffness of the liver based on readings from invisible, high-intensity shear waves which are transmitted through the liver.
