Frimley, UK, 2016-Jan-08
The award was granted to Siemens Rail Systems following the rigorous independent assessment process which included interviews throughout November 2015 with a large number of staff from across the company.
The award is given to organisations which demonstrate excellence in developing their staff. Siemens Rail Systems met 176 of the evidence statements required as part of the framework with the report highlighting a number of areas in which Siemens Rail Systems excelled.
The company has put in place a number of processes to better engage and involve staff members, including annual managers’ conferences and an internal social network. The commitment to promoting fair and equal opportunities in the workplace, which includes involvement with both the Women in Rail and Women in Transport forums, was also highlighted in the final report.
In addition, on-the-job training and continued employee development were cited as a major benefit of working for Siemens Rail Systems, with employees stating that they felt involved in decision making at various levels. The recently launched National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR) in Northampton features as an example of Siemens Rail Systems’ continued investment in both its current staff and future generations of rail technicians.
The Investors in People Standard is an internationally recognised accreditation based on a rigorous assessment methodology and framework with a focus on promoting better people management. The Standard reviews the practices and outcomes within an organisation under three performance headings: leading, supporting and improving.
Steve Scrimshaw, Managing Director, Siemens Rail Systems, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded the Gold Award for Investors in People. Our people are always at the heart of everything we do and this award goes some way to recognising the huge efforts made by everyone across the team to ensure a fair and enjoyable working environment.
“I am proud of the work we do to develop our people and provide for the future of the rail industry by supporting the next generation. I look forward to continuing this work in the future.”
