The Global Principal Partner programme is a worldwide scheme creating elite partnerships between Siemens and universities. In each country, Siemens nominates a small number of universities to join the programme, to strengthen the areas of expertise in which each university specialises. By the University joining as Global Principal Partners, Lincoln graduates have an inside line to placements, mentoring and recruitment.
The awarding of Principal Partner status was in recognition of the valued contribution that the University makes to Research and Development through its School of Engineering.
Professor Mary Stuart, the University of Lincoln’s Vice Chancellor, said: “We are extremely proud of the relationship we have built with Siemens and what we have achieved in establishing this pioneering business/academic collaboration. Together we have created a centre of excellence for engineering, which will help to produce the next generation of ‘industry-ready’ graduates. This not only meets the immediate needs of Siemens and other employers, but helps to secure and promote the economic well-being of Lincoln and the wider region. More recently we were delighted to be named one of Siemens’ Global Principal Partners for our research and development collaborations. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of both partners which means the School of Engineering is now standing shoulder to shoulder with other leading UK institutions.”
The department, the only new School of Engineering in any UK university in the last 20 years, draws upon Lincoln’s unique expertise in the field of turbines and power engineering. Nine graduates from the first engineering cohort went on to join Siemens’ renowned engineering graduate scheme.
Steve Middlebrough, director of Service Engineering for Siemens in Lincoln says, “Siemens has a proud history as part of the Lincoln community and drawing upon the engineering expertise within it. Today’s presentation is an acknowledgement of what Lincoln University is doing to ensure that this expertise grows within the community.”
Siemens is investing heavily in UK research, and graduate recruitment and runs a UK-wide university engagement programme, including careers fairs, summer internships, year-long industrial placements, graduate schemes and collaborative project work.
Siemens was established in the United Kingdom more than 170 years ago and now employs 13,760 people in the UK. As the world’s largest engineering company, Siemens provides innovative solutions to help tackle the world’s major challenges. Siemens has offices and factories throughout the UK, with its headquarters in Frimley, Surrey.
