Siemens is strengthening its collaboration with Norwegian company Statoil on floating offshore wind turbines. For the 30 megawatt (MW) Hywind Scotland Project, Siemens will supply five of its SWT-6.0-154 direct drive offshore wind turbines. -

Siemens SafeZone starts operating in London
The first phase of a major Safety Camera upgrade project, which replaces older style spot cameras with a new average speed camera system, has gone live in London. The deployment of Siemens SafeZone has seen 50 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed at 24 sites along the A40 and is part of a contract awarded by TfL to replace existing speed cameras on four selected routes in the Capital with new digital average speed enforcement system. -

Expanded cardiac service at Torbay Hospital meets an increase in demand for specialist procedures
Torbay Hospital, part of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, is now delivering a dedicated cardiac MR service to local patients with the help of MR technology from Siemens Healthcare. The MAGNETOM® Aera MR system with syngo®.via is enabling the hospital to meet an increase in demand for specialist and complex procedures. As well as Cardiac MR, these include dynamic prostate imaging, liver MR and small bowel imaging, and with its wide bore design the new system is alleviating patient concerns when undergoing MR scans. -

Siemens receives order for offshore wind power plant in the United Kingdom
Siemens is to supply, install and commission 56 wind turbines for the Galloper Wind Farm Ltd. (GWFL) off the south-east coast of England. The owners of the offshore wind power plant are RWE, UK Green Investment Bank, Macquarie Capital and Siemens Financial Services (SFS), each with a 25 percent stake. The plant’s 336 megawatt capacity will be sufficient to supply up to 336,000 British households with clean power. Siemens will also be responsible for servicing the wind turbines for a 15-year period. The total investment costs of the Galloper project are 1.5 billion British pounds. -

St George’s tackles liver disease with the help of Siemens Healthcare angiography systems
Following a rise in liver disease, St George’s Hospital has been increasing its capacity to accommodate innovative liver disease techniques with the help of Siemens Healthcare Artis Q and Artis zeeTM angiography systems. A complex procedure, Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), is being used for cirrhosis of the liver which can lead to a life threatening haemorrhage. The technique de-pressurises the liver to prevent the condition.
