Frimley, UK, 2017-Jan-20
Gordon Wakeford, Managing Director, Siemens Mobility, said:
“Siemens welcomes the Department for Transport’s announcement of the start of the procurement process for the rolling stock for HS2. A manufacturing contract of this scale is not only exciting news for the UK rail industry but will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the wider UK supply chain.
Siemens is a long-term supporter of the HS2 project and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the Department and HS2 Limited to deliver the programme on schedule and within budget. In preparation, we have recently ramped up our HS2 activity with the appointments of both Jo Hensher and Kevin Clarke who will lead our HS2 rolling stock bid team.
“HS2 presents a great opportunity to the industry and in particular the next generation of engineers who will ultimately deliver the project. Now, more than ever, it is important that the industry works together to provide the training needed to deliver this project. Siemens remains committed to bridging the UK skills gap and supporting those aspiring rail engineers through our apprenticeship programme and the National Training Academy for Rail in Northampton. We look forward to building on this in the future, working closely with the Department and HS2 Limited.”
