Siemens SafeZone starts operating in London
The first phase of a major Safety Camera upgrade project, which replaces older style spot cameras with a new average speed camera system, has gone live in London. The deployment of Siemens SafeZone has seen 50 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed at 24 sites along the A40 and is part of a contract awarded by TfL to replace existing speed cameras on four selected routes in the Capital with new digital average speed enforcement system. -

Expanded cardiac service at Torbay Hospital meets an increase in demand for specialist procedures
Torbay Hospital, part of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, is now delivering a dedicated cardiac MR service to local patients with the help of MR technology from Siemens Healthcare. The MAGNETOM® Aera MR system with syngo®.via is enabling the hospital to meet an increase in demand for specialist and complex procedures. As well as Cardiac MR, these include dynamic prostate imaging, liver MR and small bowel imaging, and with its wide bore design the new system is alleviating patient concerns when undergoing MR scans. -

Siemens receives order for offshore wind power plant in the United Kingdom
Siemens is to supply, install and commission 56 wind turbines for the Galloper Wind Farm Ltd. (GWFL) off the south-east coast of England. The owners of the offshore wind power plant are RWE, UK Green Investment Bank, Macquarie Capital and Siemens Financial Services (SFS), each with a 25 percent stake. The plant’s 336 megawatt capacity will be sufficient to supply up to 336,000 British households with clean power. Siemens will also be responsible for servicing the wind turbines for a 15-year period. The total investment costs of the Galloper project are 1.5 billion British pounds. -

The plan to introduce a £210 million fleet of brand new trains for South West Trains (SWT) passengers has passed an important milestone. Construction of the first Siemens-built Class 707 Desiro City trains is now underway with the main body of the train created and assembled. -

St George’s tackles liver disease with the help of Siemens Healthcare angiography systems
Following a rise in liver disease, St George’s Hospital has been increasing its capacity to accommodate innovative liver disease techniques with the help of Siemens Healthcare Artis Q and Artis zeeTM angiography systems. A complex procedure, Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), is being used for cirrhosis of the liver which can lead to a life threatening haemorrhage. The technique de-pressurises the liver to prevent the condition. -

Three Bridges depot opens its doors, marking completion of a major milestone for Thameslink Programme
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin today formally opened Siemens and Govia Thameslink Railway’s new, purpose-built Three Bridges train depot in Crawley, West Sussex, marking a major milestone for the Thameslink Programme, which will transform journeys for passengers. The depot, which is already home to two new Class 700 Desiro City trains, will play a significant part in housing and maintaining the new fleet for the Thameslink network. -

Siemens to add an additional 173 megawatts to Clyde onshore wind farm in Scotland
Siemens has received an order for the supply, installation and commissioning of 54 direct drive wind turbines. The SWT-3.2-101 turbines will add another 172.8 megawatts (MW) to SSE’s Clyde wind farm in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Siemens will also be providing long-term service for the new Clyde Extension project. With an existing capacity of 350 MW, Clyde is already one of the largest onshore wind power plants in Europe. -

John Radcliffe employs innovative mobile technology to ease MRI anxieties in young patients
John Radcliffe Children’s Hospital, part of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, has introduced a new mobile application during its MRI scan play preparation which is helping ease children’s potential fears and anxieties around the imaging process. Many young patients who attend an MRI scan come with pre-conceived ideas around the noise, the closed environment and having to lie still for long periods of time with parents at a distance. The MRI Scan App from Siemens Healthcare is enabling children to gain clear, fun and reliable information plus play out the experience and learn coping mechanisms. -

Double commendation for Siemens in Southampton at National Rail Awards 2015
The Siemens’ team responsible for looking after the 172-strong fleet of South West Trains operated Siemens Desiro Class 444 and 450 trains based at Northam, Southampton, were last night commended in the rail industry ‘Oscars’. They picked up two Highly Commended accolades in the National Rail Awards 2015 Maintenance Team of the Year and Outstanding Teamwork categories.
