25 May 2011Siemens helps to put London at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution
Source London, launched officially today by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, will provide a network of publicly accessible charge points across London. Any vehicle that is licensed with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency as a pure electric or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, including motorbikes, cars, vans, trucks and scooters will be able to use Source London. Customers can use one membership card to open charge points across the whole city and charge their vehicle for an annual flat rate of GBP100 including electricity. The aim is to have 1,300 charging points by 2013. Source London is expected to attract thousands of electric vehicle drivers over the next three years. -

Siemens has today announced delivery of the first SWT3.0-101 Direct Drive technology wind turbines to the UK. The six wind turbines will be delivered to Community Windpower Ltd, a UK based community windfarm developer. Installation is planned to commence in December 2011 with commissioning complete in early 2012. The wind turbines will be supported with a 15 year service agreement from Siemens. -

05 Apr 2011Energy trading hub: HVDC transmission link between Britain and the Netherlands goes into operation
Together with the operating company BritNed Development Ltd., Siemens Energy has placed the BritNed HVDC transmission link between Britain and the Netherlands into operation. BritNed is a joint venture of National Grid, the international electricity and gas company and one of the largest investor-owned utilities in the world, and TenneT, the Dutch grid operator based in Arnhem. The 260-km-long subsea cable connection with a transmission capacity of 1000 megawatts (MW) links the 400-kV grids in southern England and in the south of the Netherlands. The HVDC transmission system’s converter station in the UK is located on the Isle of Grain in Kent in south eastern England, while the Dutch station is situated in Maasvlakte near Rotterdam. Besides ensuring greater stability in the European integrated network, BritNed will also serve as an energy trading hub and thus bring more competition into the grid. -

Siemens has announced that it has won a new transformer replacement contract with ScottishPower Energy Networks at its Govan substation in Scotland. Siemens has worked with ScottishPower Energy Networks for over fifteen years. This latest contract is focused on asset modernisation to improve efficiency through the replacement and overhaul of existing transformers and the fitting out of the substation as part of a two-year improvement programme. The whole programme is targeted for final completion by 2013. -
