A new generation of CT scanner is about to revolutionise medical diagnoses

The Siemens Somatom Definition, the most advanced scanner of its kind in the world, scans faster than a human heartbeat. This means patients can be scanned without the need for beta blockers to slow their hearts, and with up to 50% less radiation than a traditional scan.

The amazingly clear images show the cardiovascular, skeletal and muscular scans of a 65 year old male patient . The scanners will be available to UK hospitals in autumn 2006.
