Please note this release has been superseded by a new release on 07.09.2015 - Siemens awards Hull blade factory training contract to Hull College Group

The global engineering giant is staging the events to enable local people to find out all they need to know about the 1,000 jobs it is creating in Hull’s biggest ever inward investment.

Siemens and partner organisations said the events could accommodate up to 7,000 visitors but stressed that people had to register online in advance in order to attend. Pre-registration to attend within a specific time slot is essential because of the capacities of the venues and to ensure every job-seeker has sufficient time to get the information and advice they need to apply to work with the company.

Carolyn Woolway, Siemens Head of Human Resources for the Hull project, said: “We really must stress that people shouldn’t just turn up and walk in. They need to register and book a slot in advance. That enables us to manage the numbers, as we expect there to be a great deal of interest in these events, and to ensure that everyone who attends gets the most out of their time.”

The venues have been chosen to cover the Hull area as widely as possible. Details are as follows:

East Hull

Tuesday, September 29, Freedom Centre, Preston Road, Hull, HU9 3QB.

1.00pm to 7.00pm (Ample free on-site parking available).

West Hull

Wednesday, September 30, Mercure Grange Park Hotel, Willerby, HU10 6EA

1.00pm to 7.00pm (Ample free on-site parking available).

Central Hull

Saturday, October 3, Guildhall, Hull, HU1 2AA

10.00am to 4.00pm (Limited pay and display parking available).

People can register to attend the events from today (August 24) by going to the Green Port Hull website and following the link at www.greenporthull.co.uk/siemens

The events are being staged by Siemens in partnership with Hull City Council, East Riding Council and Jobcentre Plus to ensure job-seekers receive the best possible service in terms of information, advice, support and resources.

Mrs Woolway added: “If people are interested in jobs with Siemens in Hull my strong advice to them is to register and come along to one of these events.

“These events present a unique opportunity as everybody and everything is in one place for prospective applicants. They can find out all they need to know about the project and the jobs we are creating and speak directly to people from Siemens about these opportunities, the application process and our requirements.

“People who attend will also be able to get support from Jobcentre Plus in CV writing and preparing their job application.”

Anna Botten, Siemens Recruitment Manager, Wind Power UK, said the careers days were intended to provide comprehensive information, advice and support to prospective applicants and stressed Siemens staff would not be conducting interviews or accepting CVs on the day.

She urged potential applicants to register for job alerts via the Siemens UK website at www.siemens.co.uk/hulljobs and also review a wealth of information about the range of jobs that will be available at www.greenporthull.co.uk/siemens

She said: “We would really encourage people to think prior to these events about the types of roles for which they might be suitable. They can do that based on the content on the Green Port Hull site.

“Our message is ‘do your research and come prepared’. People will get the most from their time by coming armed with specific questions about the jobs we will have available and what we’re looking for from applicants.

“We have significant experience of handling large volume recruitment campaigns and we have put a dedicated recruitment team in place to manage this process. We have robust processes that enable us to employ the best possible candidates and also ensure the candidate experience is very positive and professional.”

Helen Stinson, Economic Development Officer at Hull City Council, said: “We are delighted to be working closely with Siemens and Jobcentre Plus to deliver the career events and recognise the importance of engaging with the city’s various communities, in order to provide employment opportunities for local people.

“In readiness for Siemens’ operational phase, Hull City Council has been delivering support for employment and skills since 2012 through the Green Port Growth Programme, with an aim to develop additional capabilities in the local engineering and manufacturing workforce.”

Lorraine Alexander, Employer and Partnerships Manager at Jobcentre Plus, said: “We are delighted to be working collaboratively with Hull City Council, supporting Siemens’ recruitment plans, and we are looking forward to supporting the careers events. Together with colleagues from the National Careers Service we will be there to provide advice and guidance regarding training, CVs, mock interviews and how to apply for jobs online.”

Austin Lillico, Senior Inward Investment Officer at East Riding Council, said: “We are pleased to be helping with the upcoming careers days. Whilst they are primarily based around Siemens and the job opportunities that are becoming available with them, East Riding staff will be on hand to assist visitors generally and also offer advice and guidance around wider issues relating to employment and skills.”

With partner Associated British Ports (ABP), Siemens is investing £310m in the Hull project to create world-class and world-scale offshore wind turbine blade manufacturing, assembly, logistics and servicing facilities. Siemens anticipates delivering the first blades early in 2017 and for the facilities at Alexandra Dock to be fully staffed, with a workforce of around 1,000 people, later in that year.
