Siemens wins major new contract with the Department for Work and Pensions

Contract to develop new Central Payment System will improve the payment and accounting of the UK’s benefits and pensions

United Kingdom, 2006-Jul-10

Siemens Business Services today announced that it has been awarded a major new contract to develop a new payment and accounting system for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The £59m contract is scheduled to run to 2010, and will provide an integrated payment and accounting system which will modernise how the DWP makes, manages and accounts for the £110 billion of benefits, pensions and allowances paid annually to its 17 million customers.

Already a leading supplier of IT services to the UK Government, Siemens Business Services will be responsible for working with the DWP through the development, delivery and ongoing system management and maintenance of a new Central Payment System (CPS). Based on the Oracle E-Business Suite, the CPS will integrate with existing DWP systems and processes and will provide improved customer service through faster, more accurate payments and greater accounting controls.

Tom White, Managing Director of Siemens Business Services, commented: “We are extremely pleased to have been awarded this contract. As a leading supplier of services to the public sector both in the UK and in Europe we are looking forward to helping the Department for Work and Pensions transform its services to UK citizens. This contract further develops the central role that Siemens Business Services currently plays in helping to improve the efficiency of public service delivery.”
