As a major engineering employer in the UK, with over 14,000 employees and a longstanding and highly successful apprenticeship scheme, there is little doubt that apprenticeships deliver value for Siemens. The number of new UK apprentices at the firm is now higher than that of graduates.
Siemens has created around 130 more places this year across its four sectors; Energy, Industry, Healthcare and Infrastructure and Cities. These much prized places include Higher Apprenticeships in Railway Automation, and the pioneering Apprenticeship in Wind Power.
The Higher Apprenticeship programme adds to Siemens already extensive apprenticeship offering. Targeting school leavers with A-levels, Higher Apprenticeships offer a viable and affordable alternative to university, and the opportunity to progress onto Bachelor of Engineering courses.
Siemens is one of the UK’s leading apprenticeship employers. Competition is tough for this much prized programme and the new apprentices have already gone through an intensive recruitment process to be awarded a Siemens apprenticeship.

Martin Hottass, Manager, Skills and Learning Governance at Siemens plc said: “Engineering is a key part of the UK’s industrial strategy and continuing to invest in and attract engineering talent is a top priority for Siemens as a leading UK employer.
“Siemens invests heavily in skills and training in the UK and apprenticeships are at the heart of our approach. Apprenticeships represent a highly effective and sustainable way to nurture engineering talent in the long-term, with huge benefits for the economy, business and employee.”
Sir William Siemens himself, who founded Siemens in the UK 170 years ago, progressed from the shop floor to the top floor, having started his career as an apprentice.
