Siemens Welcomes 18 Graduates to Chippenham

Chippenham-based Siemens Rail Automation has recruited 18 graduates who will now embark on the company’s two-year training programme.

Chippenham, UK, 2015-Sep-08

Colin Morris, Siemens’ Head of Capability, explained the programme: “The graduates all begin with a period of group training at Chippenham, but then go through a series of individual placements, taking different roles in different areas of the business. After two years, they then progress into a permanent role in one our offices.

“We aim for all the graduates to ultimately achieve chartered engineer status and they are mentored throughout the programme by an established engineer within the business. It’s a measure of how much importance we place on this, that our UK Managing Director, Paul Copeland, together with several members of our executive team, are currently graduate mentors.”

The graduates are joining an established workforce of some 700 staff at Siemens’ office in Chippenham. Home to the company’s 11,000 square metre manufacturing operation, Chippenham is also the base for some of its research and development, project delivery, engineering and commercial teams.

As a leading supplier to the UK’s rail industry, Siemens is involved in some of the UK’s most high profile infrastructure projects, including the redevelopment of Reading Station, and London’s Thameslink and Crossrail programmes.

Colin concluded: “The graduates will be exposed to a wide range of challenging and complex projects, but with the right training and support, we’re confident that they’ll go on to play a key role in maintaining the company’s proud and successful association with the rail industry.”
