The zone will be officially opened by GB Rowing Team members Sophie Hosking and Chris Bartley. Chris achieved gold in the 2010 World Rowing Championships, has a biology degree and an MSc in Biology Photography. Sophie won gold in the 2011 World Cup and has a degree in Chemistry and Physics.
Visitors can learn about the science behind such sports as rowing, sailing, running and even wheelchair basketball. They will find out about how muscles work, the winning skill of concentration and how to bend a shot like Beckham. You don’t have to be a super-athlete to take part. This permanent learning zone is for every one, children and adults. Siemens has sponsored a ‘Rowing Race Simulator’ which allows two people to compete on rowing machines. Progress of the race can be viewed on a virtual lake as participant’s race towards the finishing line.
INTECH is an educational charity and popular family day-out. Open every day from 10am – 4pm, it features the Science Centre with 100 hands-on exhibits and the UK’s largest capacity Planetarium. Very popular with schools (30,000 children) as well as families.
