Siemens success at the Big Bang Fair

London ExCel, 10th-12th March 2011

Frimley, 2011-Mar-14

A successful three days at the Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair in London last week saw thousands of children and young adults inspired by science and engineering at the Siemens stand. Business Secretary, MP Vince Cable paid a visit to the Siemens stand on the first day of The Fair, with managing director of Siemens UK Industry Sector, Juergen Maier providing the guided tour.

Siemens was a lead sponsor of The Big Bang at London ExCel, organised by Engineering UK, to highlight the diverse and exciting careers which require STEM subjects and the role engineering plays in developing the technology needed to tackle climate change.

Visitors to Siemens’ stand were able to experience building their own wind turbine model, trying out a 3d ultrasound scanner and expressing their thoughts about some of the world’s toughest questions on a doodling wall. On the second day visitors had the opportunity to meet Mark Hunter MBE, a gold medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

On show next to the Siemens stand was Greenpower, the national programme to promote engineering and technology to students through projects to design, build and race an electric car. The charity, which is sponsored by Siemens, received a generous boost as Siemens PLM Software announced a significant expansion to Siemens’ support for Greenpower with the donation of its industry leading Solid Edge design and engineering software.
