Siemens Mobility will design, build, integrate and commission two signalling systems: an on-street running system to manage tram-train operations through the city centre, and a line-of-sight system on the Cardiff Bay Mainline leading to safe, reliable and efficient services linking communities across South Wales.
The project builds on Siemens Mobility's track record in the region, having delivered the signalling elements of the Core Valley Lines Transformation programme, renewing lineside signalling infrastructure across South East Wales and allowing train frequency to double from two to four trains per hour. Eventually Cardiff Crossrail will integrate with the existing Core Valley Lines network, extending the reach of the South Wales Metro.
