Siemens reaches final of European Excellence Awards 2011

Siemens Healthcare, based in Frimley, Camberley, has been selected as one of 18 finalists for the 2011 EFQM Excellence Award. Presented annually by the European Foundation for Quality Management, the award recognises business performance measured against Europe's most widely used management framework, the EFQM Excellence Model.

Widely acknowledged as leading innovator for sustainable delivery of affordable and personalised healthcare, the company is joined by other organisations across Europe competing for recognition of their achievements within the excellence model framework. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Munich on 25 October 2011.

According to Managing Director of Siemens Healthcare, Gunter Dombrowe: “Being short-listed is a great result for Healthcare and provides further proof of our commitment to innovation and customer excellence for the benefit of UK healthcare providers and patients. This builds on our 2006 and 2010 success as winners of the UK Business Excellence Award which is judged by the British Quality Foundation using the same framework.”

Business Improvement Director Ian Clarke said: ‘Through the EFQM model we identify our strengths and areas for improvement and use this information to develop new and improved approaches for the future; helping us to meet our customers’ demanding expectations and create a more successful business. Siemens is about using innovation and technology to provide our customers with exceptional products and services. Annual assessment using the Excellence Model ensures we stay on top of the game.”

EFQM is a global non-for-profit membership foundation based in Brussels, Belgium. With more than 500 members covering more than 55 countries and 50 industries, providing a unique platform for organisations to learn from each other and improve performance. EFQM is the custodian of the EFQM Excellence Model, a business model which is helping over 30 000 organisations around the globe to strive for Sustainable Excellence.

The EFQM Award is unique because of its selection process. Following a detailed written submission, to identify the finalists, a team of 4 – 8 international experienced managers spend one week on site (200 man hours), interviewing and analysing the applicant against the EFQM Excellence Model. The conclusion and the scores are then presented to an independent jury that takes the final decision.
