United Kingdom, 2006-Aug-17
Siemens is the main sponsor of the 2006 World Rowing Championships which is being held at Dorney Lake, Eton, between 20 and 27 August.
The sponsorship underlines Siemens’ long-term support and commitment to rowing, and follows the announcement last month that Siemens will be the ‘High Performance Partner’ of the Great Britain Rowing Team until 2012.
Siemens will be the Main Sponsor and the Premier National Sponsor of the World Rowing Championships organised by FISA, the world rowing federation.
Alan Wood, UK chief executive of Siemens, said: ”We are proud to be sponsoring the World Rowing Championships and I’m looking forward to watching the world’s best rowers competing for glory in Britain.”
Sir Steve Redgrave, honorary president of the 2006 World Rowing Championships, said: “I welcome Siemens’ support for this year’s Championships and for the sport of rowing over the coming six years. It will be interesting to explore how rowing can benefit from innovations Siemens can share with us. I have no doubt that this year’s event at Dorney Lake will set the benchmark as ‘The Athlete’s Championships,’ and I wish all the competitors, supporters and spectators a rewarding and thrilling experience.”
GB men's singles rower Alan Campbell, said: "Having the World Championships at Eton means a huge amount to the whole team. Competing in front of your home crowd is something as rowers we rarely get to do.”
As the High Performance Partner of GB Rowing, Siemens will work on innovative ways to assist the team’s training and the performance of its men’s, women’s and adaptive crews. Funding will also be available to continue to develop the new national rowing training facility and to add value to the Amateur Rowing Association’s World Class Start Programme, designed to support talented and emerging individuals.
Speaking of his company’s support for GB Rowing, Alan Wood added: “We have a track record of introducing technology to sport, from innovations like Hawk-Eye to the latest medical equipment, and we intend to focus our efforts on helping British rowing in any way we can.”
