Siemens presents the next level of digital transformation for the machine tool industry

  • Siemens drives forward digital transformation in the machine tool industry with a brand new Sinumerik generation
  • Sinumerik ONE enables seamless interaction between the virtual and real world for a significant increase of productivity in the production and use of machine tools
  • Scalable CNC-portfolio for highest performance requirements and optimum surface quality

Under the slogan "Digitalisation in Machine Tool Manufacturing – Thinking further!", Siemens is presenting numerous extensions to its Digital Enterprise portfolio for the machine tool industry at MACH in Hall 17, Stand 230. The company has already integrated future technologies in its portfolio, such as its new machine tool controller specifically designed for digitalisation, Edge, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and additive manufacturing. This technology is leading the machine tool world to the next level of digital transformation.

"With our unique range of digitalisation solutions, we are paving the way for the future of the machine tool industry and helping our customers, machine builders and machine users, to find new and more comprehensive ways of using rapidly growing data volumes to increase their productivity, quality and competitive edge," explains Jason Peel, General Manager - Motion Control.

The basis for innovative technologies is the availability and transparency of data which can be used to create digital twins – of the product, production and performance – which map and link together all the steps of industrial manufacturing processes in a virtual environment. "The key is to use this data innovatively and to convert it into valuable knowledge in order to improve performance, flexibility and reduce the time to market," Peel continues.

Sinumerik ONE is the first digital native CNC that drives digital transformation forward in the machine tool industry. The new controller works with software to create the machine controller and associated digital twin from one engineering system and thus contributes to the seamless integration of hardware and software. Thanks to its seamless interaction between the virtual and real world in conjunction with high-performance hardware, Sinumerik ONE is setting new standards in terms of productivity, performance and digitalisation. It is the future-proof CNC for machine tools in the increasing digital world of manufacturing. Both machine manufacturers and machine operators benefit from the universal digital twin for the product, production and performance.

With Sinumerik ONE, machine tool manufacturers can virtually map their entire development processes, significantly reducing the product development phase and time to market for new machines. The virtual commissioning process can also reduce the duration of actual commissioning considerably. The virtual model of the machine opens up new possibilities for manufacturers and operators alike. Machine concepts and functions can be discussed – even before real hardware is available.

The realistic processing simulation provided by Sinumerik ONE enables machine users to simulate the programming of workpieces, the setup and operation of machines completely on the PC. Employee training can also be carried out using the digital twin instead of on the actual machine.

The innovations of Sinumerik ONE enables the possibility to create a universal digital twin for product and production that speeds up processing steps significantly. The CNC system with integrated Simatic S7-1500F PLC is available in both a control cabinet-based and panel-based version. Sinumerik ONE fits perfectly into the TIA Portal and makes a highly efficient engineering framework available for machine manufacturers. With Safety Integrated Plus, the new Sinumerik ONE supports the consistent Siemens industry standard for safety. With IT security integrated in the CNC by design, Sinumerik ONE implements the multi-layer Defense-in-Depth-Concept. With Create MyVirtualMachine and Run MyVirtualMachine, the new controller comes complete with software to create the machine controller and associated digital twin from one engineering system. As a result, the universal concept of the digital twin, powerful hardware and integrated IT security make Sinumerik ONE a forward-looking CNC, which is driving digital transformation forward in the machine tool industry.
