Siemens is one of the UK’s leading apprenticeship employers and has over 300 apprentices on its longstanding programme, which also includes Higher Apprenticeships. Competition is tough for this much prized programme and the new apprentices have already gone through an intensive programme to be awarded a Siemens apprenticeship.
Martin Hottass, manager, Skills and Learning Governance at Siemens plc said:
“We are delighted to welcome this year’s apprentices into the business. Engineering is a key part of the UK’s industrial strategy and continuing to invest in and attract engineering talent is a top priority for Siemens as a leading UK employer.
Siemens invests heavily in skills and training in the UK and apprenticeships are at the heart of our approach. Apprenticeships represent a highly effective and sustainable way to nurture engineering talent in the long-term, with huge benefits for the economy, business and employee.”
The two day welcome programme will provide an introduction to Siemens and its businesses as well as the apprenticeship framework. It will include a full visit to the Subsea Excellence Centre home to Siemens Subsea, a world leader in subsea connectors for the Oil and Gas industry. The visit will be followed by team building activities at the YMCA National Centre in Cumbria - one of the largest outdoor activity facilities in the country.
Colin Kendall Learning & Development advisor at Siemens Subsea commented:
“We are pleased to welcome the new apprentices to our site here at Ulverston. Siemens Subsea is celebrating the largest intake of apprentices to date, so it is with great pleasure that we are hosting this year’s induction event for apprentices who will join Siemens businesses in the North of England.
Building on last year’s inaugural event in Manchester, we are delighted to be working with the YMCA locally at Lakeside to deliver a programme of activities focusing on communication, teamwork, quality and safety – all factors that have contributed to our success here at Ulverston. This event will provide a memorable and beneficial introduction to Siemens for everyone involved and we look forward to developing the programme.”
