Working in partnership with the Heart of Yorkshire education group, East Riding Council, and DFN Project SEARCH, Siemens Mobility is providing supported work opportunities for young adults with learning disabilities and autism spectrum conditions between the ages of 18 – 24. The programme creates inclusive employment opportunities and empowers these young adults through specialised training and practical work experience at our state-of-the-art Rail Village in Goole.
The partners will host an interest event on Thursday 30th January 2025 between 17:00 and 19:00 at the RaisE Business Centre, Goole, DN14 6BS. This event is designed to assist families with young adults who have special educational needs and autism spectrum conditions in discovering available internship opportunities and better understand the application process.
Mark Speed, General Manager at Siemens Mobility’s Goole Rail Village, said: “At Siemens Mobility, we are committed to breaking down barriers to entry for underrepresented people and ensuring that people from any background can gain valuable experience in our industry.
“By working with DFN Project SEARCH and Heart of Yorkshire, we are determined to show how young people with learning disabilities and autism spectrum conditions can bring valuable skills to the workforce and help our team at the Goole Rail Village transform rail travel in the UK.”
Sam Wright, Principal and Chief Executive at Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, said: “It’s been fantastic to see how our DFN Project SEARCH interns have grown and developed over the past year as part of their supported internship. The team at Siemens Mobility have gone above and beyond to ensure the interns are embedded into the company and its operations, which has enabled them to truly immerse themselves into their roles and gain key employability and life skills. We’re delighted that Siemens Mobility will be taking on DFN Project SEARCH interns again from September 2025 and encourage those who are interested in finding out more about the programme to attend the Interest Event.”
Kirsty Matthews, Chief Executive of DFN Project SEARCH, said: “We are very proud to be once again working with Siemens Mobility, Heart of Yorkshire, Hft and Riding Council to help more young adults find meaningful employment. The Interest Event is a brilliant opportunity for young adults and their families from the Goole area to find out more about the programme. Should they choose to sign up, interns will receive comprehensive support and crucial employability skills, opening doors to fulfilling future careers.”
The supported internship scheme will help young adults to gain essential skills and confidence needed to thrive in the workforce. Working with a job coach and a tutor, the interns will have access to specialised training and hands-on practical experience across various areas of the Goole Rail Village. Placements will rotate through the Components Facility, the warehouse, office and administration, and security and facilities maintenance.
This opportunity is for young people who would otherwise face significant challenges in accessing employment opportunities. Siemens Mobility recognises the importance of providing equal opportunities and is committed to assisting those who may otherwise struggle to find employment.
Last year, DFN Project Search helped over 430 young adults all around the UK secure meaningful employment. Since 2012, it has helped over 2500. On average, over 60% of DFN Project SEARCH interns secure a meaningful, permanent job upon graduation.
