Siemens Mobility employees deliver 1,200+ volunteering hours across 9 UK locations for volunteering month

  • During the month of May, Siemens Mobility employees made a meaningful impact, delivering 21 volunteering activities across 9 sites throughout the UK.
  • More than 1,200 hours of volunteering completed in just seven weeks.
  • The Initiative launched in line with Community Rail Week, to support long-term community partnerships.

Siemens Mobility employees have completed more than 1,200 volunteering hours as part of a seven-week initiative aimed at delivering lasting social value in the communities in which the company operates across the UK.

Rob Morris, Joint UK&I CEO and Managing Director for Rail Infrastructure said: “At Siemens Mobility, our colleagues don’t just transform rail travel and transport, they also demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to strengthening the communities where we live and work.

The Spring Volunteering Campaign is a powerful reminder of the difference we can make – whether it is revitalising community spaces or lending a hand on local projects. The dedication shown by our teams across the country is a testament to our shared values and sense of community.”

The volunteering initiative mobilised teams from Glasgow to Chippenham to tackle local challenges and participate in projects ranging from station upgrades to environmental conservation. These efforts were delivered in partnership with community rail organisations and local charities, highlighting the power of collaboration and community spirit.

Siemens Mobility employees worked together with local charities and community rail partnerships to deliver meaningful, hands-on initiatives that made a real difference.

Key initiatives across the country included:

  • Stevenage, Hertfordshire: Siemens Mobility volunteers supported Generation Stevenage, a local careers fair, to inspire young people about careers in rail and engineering.
  • Birmingham: Employees hosted work experience days and partnered with The Conservation Volunteers to expand community planting areas that support local food-growing efforts.
  • Manchester: At Mauldeth Road Station, volunteers refreshed the station’s green spaces by clearing weeds and planting vibrant flowers.
  • York: Volunteers helped preserve the historic Poppleton Community Railway Nursery – replacing old cold frames and laying new weed barriers to support the UK’s last surviving railway nursery.
  • Glasgow: As part of a national partnership with The Conservation Volunteers, employees enhanced green spaces at Stobhill Hospital, creating a welcoming outdoor area for patients, visitors, and staff.

Tim Elsworth, a volunteer from Poppleton Community Railway Nursery said: “Volunteer visits from groups such as Siemens Mobility, provide a much-needed workforce on projects.”

Siemens Mobility is focused on building sustainable partnerships with community stakeholders. This includes initiatives that promote rail safety, enhance green spaces, encourage STEM learning, and inspire young people to explore careers in technology and engineering.
