- Siemens in ground-breaking UK-content export
- Value anticipated to be up to £1,000,000 over the contract term
- Combined work on two major windfarm developments; Veja Mate and Walney Extension
Siemens in the UK has, for the first time, awarded a UK-based supplier with a contract to supply a German project.
In a ground-breaking move, a contract for the supply of a blade rack, won by the A&P Group Limited has been awarded with the prospect that the blade rack will service a German project Veja Mate, followed by its re-use on a UK project – the Walney Extension East.
The contract, initially worth many hundreds of thousands of pounds is the first step in what is hoped to be a fruitful and on-going partnership between Siemens and the A&P Group, involving a proposed UK-mobilisation port.
Christoph Schott, Siemens’ Project Procurement Manager, says: “This is a significant step for the provision of UK-content. It marks a starting point where Siemens is able to begin exporting from the industry that has been created in the UK, beginning with Greenport Hull.”
The Walney Extension project, phase 2 will feature 47 of Siemens’ 7Mw Direct Drive turbines generating 50% of the extension’s total capacity of 660Mw. The project, 19km off of the Cumbrian coast in the Irish Sea will become the world’s largest offshore windfarm and will generate enough clean energy to power in excess of 460,000 UK homes.
