Children North East - Child Poverty, definitely not a thing of the past

On Tuesday, 17 December employees at Siemens Power Transmission in Monkton provided a pleasant surprise for Children North East with the donation of over 100 gifts for distribution to local children supported by the local charity.

Children North East is a local charity which helps to transform the lives of
disadvantaged children so that they have a better chance in life. Siemens is hoping to support them this Christmas by providing as many gifts as possible for children whose ages range from 1-18.

Business Manager Trevor Coxon was delighted with the efforts of employees, he said:

“Our employees chose Children North East for our Christmas campaign this year. This is a really wonderful cause which spreads so much joy by a very simple act of giving. We often take it for granted that Christmas is a happy time, but for many children that is not the case. Children North East is focused on addressing this in a practical way so that what should be a joyful time can be made more so. We had a tremendous response from our employees who were really generous in their donations. Well done to everyone.”

Siemens commercial officer Sarah Maclauchlan helped drive the initiative with a call to employees to donate an unwrapped gift up to the value of £6. ‘Gifts range from jigsaws to interactive games to perfume/aftershave, chocolates and other non-perishable food items. Nothing is too little or too much and gifts can also include items such as high street vouchers, arts and crafts and bed linen.

Carol Taylor from Children North East who received the gifts on behalf of the charity said:

“A big thank you to staff at Siemens site in Monkton. Everyone was so generous and all gifts are gratefully received. Rest assured these gifts will all find good homes this Christmas. “
