Siemens launches service to reduce carbon and costs

Siemens IT Solutions and Services introduces 'ELAM'

Siemens IT Solutions and Services is launching its Environmental Load Accumulation Modelling (ELAM) service at the ‘Government ICT Goes Green’ conference and exhibition on 15 September 2009 in London. The service, which defines the current and future environmental load of an organisation’s ICT estate, provides an approach that enables both carbon and cost reduction within an organisation.

Siemens works with clients to identify carbon emissions across the ICT estate and deliver a detailed analysis, revealing the most fruitful areas for further investigation. This informs planned changes and enables performance improvements to maximise the efficiency of that estate and reduce both its carbon impact and energy costs.

The method of data capture allows for ‘nominal’ values of energy consumption to be taken initially – and for this data to be updated as more information is gathered over time, providing a dynamic and ongoing evaluation and reporting tool.

The ELAM service is a significant addition to Siemens’ IT for Sustainability toolkit, and complements its Environmental Sustainability Healthcheck and Assessment methodologies. Together these take a holistic view across all of an organisation’s infrastructures and resource usage, utilising Siemens’ whole environmental portfolio of products and services.

Clark MacFarlane; Managing Director of Siemens IT Solutions and Services, comments: “Siemens’ experience in the delivery of cost-effective IT solutions, alongside our wide-ranging expertise across energy, power and building technologies, positions us perfectly to assist companies with the management of sustainability practices across their whole organisation. The ELAM service is another key tool providing a springboard to superior decision making for economically effective carbon reduction.”

Siemens is an exhibitor at the ‘Government ICT Goes Green 2009’ conference. For more information on IT for Sustainability and the ELAM please visit www.siemens.co.uk/it-solutions. For more information on the Conference please visit: www.govnet.co.uk/greenict
