Set in a shopping centre against the backdrop of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Smart Buildings game challenges students from the age of 9 years to consider key public health and safety risks, how to spot them and how to take positive action against them using smart technology.
Brenda Yearsley, School and Education Development Manager at Siemens UK said: “We originally started with an idea to develop an educational game based on Siemens’ Smart Infrastructure Solutions. But as the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic began to unfold, we realised there was an opportunity to tap into current affairs and help expand KS3 students’ awareness of COVID-19, helping to demystify what might otherwise be a very worrying topic for young people.”
“All our Siemens Education materials are free to play and mapped to the national curriculum so home-schooling parents can be confident that the game-play is also helping students meet their educational goals,” added Yearsley.
The teachers’ notes provide more in-depth detail on topics such as bacteria, viruses and how to control them; as well as public health and safety – all with the aim of empowering students to understand how to keep themselves, and their peers, safe during the COVID-19 outbreak.
