Siemens installs its 1,000th wind turbine in the UK

Siemens has installed its 1,000th wind turbine in the UK at the Gunfleet Sands wind farm off the coast of Essex.

The turbine, number EO6, forms part of a total of 48 3.6MW turbines which comprise the Gunfleet 1 and Gunfleet 2 fields owned by Dong Energy, the world’s leading operator of offshore wind farms.

Siemens is the market leader in offshore wind turbines in the UK and recently SMart Wind (a consortium led by Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures) was awarded a 4GW contract for the “Hornsea” zone of the Round 3 wind farm programme.

Siemens provides 40% of the UK’s wind turbine generating capacity.
