Siemens Industry provides 'Answers for the Environment'

Over 1,800 industry experts, end-users, OEMs, solution providers, sales partners, contractors and consultants gathered at the 'Answers for the Environment' exhibition and conference in Coventry on 29th & 30th June to hear how Siemens answers some of the toughest questions facing industry and infrastructure today.

With about 80% of the world's greenhouse cities produced by cities, the Sustainable Cities exhibition zone tackled the challenges cities face in terms of their impact on climate change. Technologies on display included the recently-launched Green Building Monitor which addresses the need for constant and visible updates on buildings' energy usage, CO2 reductions and waste targets, as well as a 'Smart Building' model highlighting intelligent technologies, energy storage and energy generation solutions for the greenest buildings of the future. The exhibition also featured the very latest low energy LED lighting and extra low voltage and LED traffic lights, details of the next generation commuter trains (the Desiro City) and a demonstration surveillance and control room incorporating the latest sustainable security solutions.

The Answers for Industry exhibition zone highlighted innovative technologies from Siemens that maximise productivity within industry, whilst minimising costs and helping to ensure environmental compliance. Key exhibits included high efficiency drive systems that can achieve up to 70% of energy savings in industrial applications, flue gas analytics for monitoring industrial emissions and water management systems, including innovative water filtration technologies which can reduce industrial waste water by around 90%.

More than 1,200 visitors attended one or more of the 25 seminars held during the two-day conference including sessions on technology, best practice and emerging trends in the areas of energy efficiency in manufacturing and sustainability in cities.

The average overall satisfaction rating with the conference programme was 81%* and 99%** of visitors surveyed said that they would happily attend this type of event again in the future.

“Juergen Maier, Head of Industry at Siemens, said: “We were delighted to see so many organisations from different sectors taking their responsibilities for carbon reduction commitment so seriously and sharing best practices in setting a course to a low carbon future here in the UK. ‘Answers for the Environment’ showed that many of the technologies needed to dramatically reduce the energy used within industry and infrastructure are already available, today.

“With support from organisations such as the Carbon Trust and the right encouragement from government, investment in technologies which enable businesses to become more operationally and energy efficient could start making a real different to C02 emissions. And above all, many of these technologies offer a rapid return on investment for most companies, ensuring profitability alongside environmental responsibility.”
