Siemens HR Director appointed new Commissioner of UK Commission for Employment and Skills

Business Secretary Vince Cable has announced the appointment of four new Commissioners to the UK Commission for Employment and Skills

Toby Peyton-Jones, Director of HR, Siemens UK & North West Europe

The Commission provides strategic leadership on skills and employment issues in the four nations of the UK. Commissioners comprise a social partnership that includes CEOs of large and small employers across a wide range of sectors, trade unions and representatives from the Devolved Administrations. Their mission is to raise skill levels to drive enterprise, create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

The new Commissioners are Toby Peyton-Jones, Director of HR, Siemens UK & North West Europe, Gail Cartmail, Assistant General Secretary, Unite the Union, Scott Johnson, Chief Executive, Chas Smith Shopfitters Ltd and Neil McLean, Consultant, DLA Piper, and Chair of the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership.

Business Secretary Vince Cable said: "Building a skilled workforce is a key part of our efforts to stimulate economic recovery and growth. I am therefore delighted to announce these appointments, the diverse backgrounds and viewpoints represented by the new Commissioners will strengthen the Commission’s capacity to deliver skills for growth across all sectors."

Toby Peyton-Jones has held a wide variety of high profile leadership roles within Siemens that include General Management, Mergers and Acquisitions and HR. He has extensive international experience including working in China as the Director of the Siemens Management Institute. Prior to Siemens he had started his career as an Officer in the Royal Engineers and moved on to work in the areas of Leadership Development and Management Consulting supporting companies from both the public and private sector.

The new appointments join an existing team of 23 Commissioners, led by Charlie Mayfield, Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership.
