Siemens, the leading global engineering and technology company today celebrated the official opening by the Right Reverend Christopher Lowson, Bishop of Lincoln of its newly modernised gas turbine manufacturing facility located in the centre of Lincoln. This £4 million investment by Siemens in a modern high-tech facility provides a positive boost to manufacturing and engineering in the city, promotes sustainability, and underpins the long-term future of the business.
Siemens has a long-standing presence and history in the city and makes a major contribution to the economy and community as Lincoln’s largest engineering employer, with a workforce of 1,500 local people. This latest investment, together with the new Teal Park development, which will house the Service business from September this year, is further demonstration of Siemens’ commitment to the city and of the ongoing success of the business.
The new building has been named the Joseph Ruston Building after the original Ruston Works factory, inherited by Siemens. The new facility, built on Siemens existing site at Pelham Bridge, provides a highly professional, modern, sustainable environment for employees, customers, suppliers and other visitors. The modern fascia, highly visible from the city’s main trunk road incorporates a new reception area, meeting rooms, offices and features a scale turbine rotor suspended from the ceiling. The offices will house around 120 Siemens customer facing employees.
Bishop Christopher, who opened the building said: “It is a real privilege to be here at Siemens today to unveil this iconic building. It is a great day for Siemens, but also for Lincoln. The building represents Siemens’ commitment to the city and its people, and I am delighted to represent this community in my role as the Bishop of Lincoln. It is great that Siemens is here offering so many opportunities to young men and women to develop high level skills and expertise. This is a world-class factory, which represents excellently the true spirit of British manufacturing. It is a great tribute to the city’s history and people.”
The new building incorporates many new features to future proof the business and benefit the city and wider community and incorporates environmentally sustainable, low carbon and energy efficient features as part of the design, including: Siemens’ electric vehicle charging posts, cycling and motorcycling posts with future provision for electric charging, landscape and new traffic management flow improvements to minimise congestion and enhance traffic safety, energy efficient lighting and recycling.

Work on the new building was completed in record time with the help of John Roberts Architects and Lindum Group for the construction, commencing in April 2011 and completed nine months later in December.
