Siemens has announced the signing of two new service contracts for onshore wind farm projects with developer, Fred Olsen Renewables in Scotland. The contract extensions at Paul’s Hill and Rothes wind farms in Morayshire are for six and seven years respectively and feature the latest innovations in service to improve yield optimisation on wind farm operations. These contracts, signed this summer, together with Crystal Rig II in East Lothian, commissioned last year, bring the Siemens fleet for Fred Olsen to over 250MW of installed capacity in Scotland.
Scotland currently boasts a high concentration of the UK’s total onshore wind energy capacity and has ambitious plans to become a major centre of renewable energy, especially wind power. Siemens installed onshore capacity in Scotland amounts to almost a third of the UK’s total wind power at over 1.7GW (UK’s total onshore and offshore capacity is 5.7GW). Siemens onshore portfolio in Scotland features innovations in service scope with the SWPS-300W - its most comprehensive and advanced service package to date that helps ensure that the wind farm performs to its maximum long-term potential. Siemens is also pioneering its innovative gearless direct drive turbines in Scotland, announcing the introduction this year of the technology at Millour Hill and Lochluichart wind farms.
At Paul’s Hill wind farm Siemens will service all 28 of the 2.3MW turbines under a six-year service agreement (Siemens’ SWPS-300W package). The SWPS-300W includes all scheduled services as well as an extended warranty on all components provided under the original Turbine Supply Agreement (TSA). The package features a complete service price per kWh of generation. Siemens' approach employs its sophisticated proprietary Turbine Condition Monitoring system (Siemens TCM) and advanced weather forecasting techniques to enable predictive maintenance at the optimum times, which maximises the generation of the wind farm. Siemens has also extended its service agreement at Rothes wind farm to service the 22 Siemens 2.3MW turbines.
