Siemens employees go dotty for charity

Employees throughout the UK donned spotted clothes and even abseiled down a wind turbine in order to raise money for Children in Need.

The theme ‘Show your spots, lets raise lots’, encouraged employees to wear something ‘dotty’ to show their support for the charity. Staff turned up for work on Friday, November 19th, in a variety of different clothing, including scarves, hats, socks and pyjamas!

The theme ‘Show your spots, lets raise lots’, encouraged employees to wear something ‘dotty’ to show their support for the charity. Staff turned up for work on Friday, November 19th, in a variety of different clothing, including scarves, hats, socks and pyjamas!

Sites throughout the UK took part and raised money with cake sales; guess the baby competitions, fancy dress competitions and sales of various goodies.

Also on the fundraising mission were employees with a stomach for heights who took on a ten metre abseil down one of the wind turbine training towers in the company's Newcastle-based Energy Service Training centre to raise money for the yearly campaign. To take part, staff had to guarantee to raise £50 in sponsorship.

Novices who were nervous about heights were in the safe hands of the Siemens Wind Power safety and rescue training team who train hundreds of people on similar evacuation procedures every year.

“It was a great chance to learn more about the wind industry, raise money for a really worthwhile cause and have some fun,” says trainer Jeremy Weiss. “Even people who were anxious beforehand wanted to come back for more!”

Each abseiler received a personal commemorative photograph of the occasion and the most successful fundraiser received a luxury food hamper. Siemens matched all money raised from the event.

Bucket shaking at the Siemens UK headquarters in Frimley, Surrey, raised £395 from loose change alone and cake sales were a huge success and sold out by lunchtime, with 50% of the total amount raised going to Children in Need.

Throughout the UK, Siemens employees have so far raised more than £5,000. Further information about where the money raised will go, can be found on the Children in Need website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/fundraising/
