Frimley, 2013-Apr-26
Siemens’ employees in Frimley took up the challenge of rowing to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation between April 22-25 in an event organised by the Legal and Compliance team.
Olympic Quad Sculls finalist, Tom Solesbury, who works as a Commercial Lawyer in Siemens Legal & Compliance team, went head to head against a number of teams.
Each team of five members rowed 350m (women) and 500m (for men) which saw all female teams rowing 1750m and all male teams 2500m. Prizes were awarded to any team that managed to beat Tom and for the fastest team overall which was CEO Roland Aurich’s team.
Tom Solesbury has been working as an intern for Siemens Legal & Compliance team since the start of the year, as part of a new skills legacy programme to support athletes in taking the first steps into business when they retire from the sport.
GB rowers have the specialist attitude and knowledge of elite team dynamics needed to deliver the very best world-class results and the new Siemens skills programme is providing them with valuable industry experience built up during six-month placements across various parts of the Siemens business.
Roland Aurich, CEO of Siemens UK, said: “The whole team is inspirational and the parallels between successful business and a team which is at the top of its game have been powerful for our employees and our brand. We are pleased to be able to continue our association in a way that gives tangible and practical help to retiring athletes looking to hone their skills in the workplace.
A team from Siemens Legal & Compliance will be taking part in this year’s London to Brighton on 16th June in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
