Siemens earns 5 star recognition at 2013 Excellence Awards

At a presentation ceremony in London earlier this month, traffic technology company Siemens based in Poole, Dorset was honoured as one of three finalists for the 2013 UK Excellence Award presented annually by the British Quality Foundation to recognise business performance improvement. The company’s score measured against Europe's most widely used management framework, the EFQM Excellence Model increased substantially, earning Siemens a 5 star Recognised for Excellence standard.

Managing Director, Gordon Wakeford, said: ‘To be one of three finalists at our first attempt is a huge credit to all of those involved. This is the highest Recognised for Excellence certification in the UK using the EFQM model and shows that we continue to improve and strive for excellence. Siemens is about innovation and technology. If we don’t continue to get better as a business all the time we just wouldn’t be where we are today.’

Since 2006, Siemens has used the European Foundation Quality Management (EFQM) Excellence model as a key framework to assess its business excellence, understand its strengths, identify areas for improvement and drive a culture of continuous improvement. In 2009, the company cemented its intention to compete with some of the UK's leading organisations by winning the South of England Excellence Awards.

Widely acknowledged as UK market leader in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of traffic technologies and systems, the company is joined by other organisations from across the UK competing for recognition of their achievements within the excellence model. The winner was announced at the ceremony in London.

Entrants are comprehensively assessed against the EFQM Excellence Model, Europe's leading management framework. The process involves producing a submission document for scrutiny, and having a team of assessors from the British Quality Foundation look at every aspect of the business for one week. The UK Excellence Award is one of the highest accolades an organisation in the UK can achieve.
