United Kingdom, 2006-Apr-12
Siemens Business Services, the transformation partner to the media and entertainment industry, today announced a deal worth up to £52.7 million for the design, build and implementation of the broadcast technology and infrastructure as part of BBC Scotland’s move to a new headquarters building in 2007. The deal is an addition to Siemens existing 10-year Technology Framework Contract with the BBC.
BBC Scotland’s new broadcast centre at Pacific Quay Glasgow will be a fully digital operation with high definition capabilities. As the prime systems integrator, Siemens Business Services will be responsible for delivery of the complete technology solution. Every aspect of working in the broadcast centre, from the telephone system to the editing of radio and TV content will involve the latest technology enabling the provision and configuration of projects.
New technology implemented includes digital production and post-production (including graphics and dubbing) radio production and studios, TV studios, presentation and playout facilities, a digital library and rich media search infrastructure.
“Pacific Quay offers us a unique opportunity to build a world-class broadcast centre incorporating the most innovative technologies, which will act as a reference site for the industry,” said Iain Marley, Pacific Quay Project Director BBC Scotland. “We’re sure our new headquarters will also become the benchmark for broadcasters in terms of state-of-the-art technology, production methods and public access.”
“This project builds on Siemens Business Services' specialist knowledge in the media industry and puts us at the forefront of IT, communications and media innovation,” said Tom White, managing director of Siemens Business Services GB&I. “By transforming the entire production process, this project will create one of the most leading-edge integrated broadcast centres in Europe.”
